Still only guessing...
I´ve read up on all of the theories I could get my Hands on, both opposed to it being the site and supporting it being the site.
I admit to having become obsessed* with the battle ..hence my Avatar.
Pre the huge anniversary I got all the possible info on the battle, from Mommsen, Ekhardt, Clunn etc (even got a signed copy of Clunn´s book
) and even as a very sceptical Person who doesn´t take power Point presented "Facts" on face value, TBH, the Counter Arguments that it wasn´t there are not as convincing in comparison to those that say that it was.
Among a couple of things that got me being very sceptical was the Piece of the lorica segmentata as I´d presumed that it wasn´t in use at the time . I also say Ben is right, most would probably have worn mail. Difficult to say it wasn´t in use at the time if a bit was found there..although the sceptic in me says it could have turned up with the later campaign to recover the eagles. Even then, the time span between the two isn´t great to be able to dismiss it being used in 9AD rather than 14-15AD.
Basically, There´s very Little to say it was in any of the other supposed 700 sites compared to what has been found at Kalkriese so without any present contrary evidence of an alternative site..it was there.........
......or was it ?
*Not so much anymore
