Norse mythology

Posted by PhilC on 11 Jul 2023, 06:38

Still very hot here in Southern Europe, so we need another round of winter scenes to cool the atmosphere. Today's subject is the Norse mythology. There are several sets by Dark Alliance that give us the opportunity to build mythological armies: mythological Greece (Centaurs, Minotaurs, Amazons) and mythological Egypt (Mummies and Anubites), but what about Norse mythology ? The answer is simple: the larger figures ranges for creatures and giants, or the Tolkienesque range, inspired by norse mythology, for other creatures.

Here you are the result so far:

The frost giants are 35mm figures for Zombicide Black Plague boardgame:

Fenrir, the enemy of the gods and the killer of Odin at the end of time, is a wolf from another boardgame, Dungeons and Dragons (you will find a description of the game here: https://philotepsfigures.blogspot.com/2017/10/dungeons-dragons-boardgame.html):

And then some dwarves from a Caesar set as Nibelungen:

Together with the DBA Vikings, they make a perfect warband for HoTT!

Great work! Now you just need a guy with a giant boot to face off against Fenris at Ragnarök! ;-)

After your young Conan leading his band of Cimmerians, these are amazing figures again, Phil.

I especially love the frost giants with their so well painted blue skin and muscles. They look really fearsome.

Santi.

Thank you Rich!

Regarding the beard of the dwarf in yellow dress: since I wanted to represent an experienced chieftain, I've tried to add some white hair among his red beard, maybe you can see it on the picture below:

Not easy to do on a 1/72 figure. I had more success in the past on a 28mm GW dwarf:

A bit challenging, but the figure has something of a character, more interesting I think.

Smashing good work Phil. Frost giants are now my 2nd favorite blue after French uniforms.

Let me guess... it means that the giants come before the Smurfs (3rd) ? That's great news
