Miscellaneous Napoleonic Cavalry

Posted by Bessiere on 18 Oct 2023, 00:01

I have a couple spare boxes of hussars I was going to offer but figured it would be cheaper from a dealer than what postage would have cost so Im glad Hannants has them. I may yet get around to painting them one day.

I'm really enjoying every progress you show us with your Napoleonic cavalry, k.b. I especially like the posts dedicated to conversions and progress on them and on the painting, though not more than the figures fully painted with so high level of detail.

As i mentioned i was struggling a bit figuring out how to highlight my green but methinks I've sussed it by adding white and some flesh tint.

His saddlecloth has been highlighted and so has the letter A monogram

Ah and here's his pelisse with the braiding finished along with his buttons.

Now the whole thing has to dry before putting all the components together....

I'd agree. It's lovely to see the wonderful finished products of the many talented figure painters on Bennos but instructive to see/read of the thought processes, methods & techniques.

Keep these posts coming!

That is the perfection I knew you'd get. That is a lovely green to be sure and the monogram is all there.

Just done the first phase of the base. Sticky scatter glue put on base carefully with cocktail stick. A couple of larger stones were placed first of all. Afterwhich, I added baking powder, fine brick dust, fine, medium, coarse woodland scenic ballast, then finally some soil.

Here I had let the scatter glue dry overnight to fix the groundwork. Next morning blew off the loose material and then applied a coat of Woodland Scenics white glue to further fix all in place, onto which i dropped a little extra soil, brick, baking soda etc depending on if i felt there lacked any particular texture.

Now i need to start painting the base with enamels. Will post this painting process as and when i finish the different steps.

...........and here is the finished figure, base, pelisse et al. The only thing I haven't done yet is to finalise the position of the pelisse. I've used a little blue tac until the oil paint is completely dry. Afterwhich i will varnish and glue the jacket permanently in place.

It looks super when all finished! A lot of hard work has clearly gone into it but well worth it.

Have just finished basing these Saxon Cuirassiers. Before i photograph them in battle here are a few piccies of them charging. These troops must have been a formidable sight indeed. Big men on big Holstein horses.

The officer's horse has surely got to be one of the most beautiful horse sculpts ever released at 1/72 scale

Does anyone out there happen to know the sculptor?

Your painting skill is absolutely top class.

The camera is merciless but you shine every time.

Best wishes,
