You reckon thats the way forward then Benno- emulating metal at thi sscale? As we chatted about before I have seen may of the great 54mm and above figure pinters use colours to emulate metal. Is it easy?

Really really nice Benno. The soldiers bags in particular are very realistic looking.

I'm curious, how long did it take you to paint this figure?

A little longer as usual because I had to find the right colors for everything... 7-8 hours? The face alone took me more than half an hour because of the nose. I hope to finish the next one in half the time.

The silver is quite hard, it isn't something you just do 100% perfect in one time. I experimented on that Strelets Norman fellow. Paint the metal first black, then a very dark grey (Revell Tank Grey) for all the metal, then a medium grey (GW Codex Grey) for some highlights and light grey (GW Fortress Grey) for just a few highlights.

The gold is a lot easier, GW Bestial Brown, a highlight with GW Bubonic Brown and the shiny parts with GW Bleached Bone.

I started with NMM because of this picture, painted by Spencer Keen:

It looked so much better with my style to paint gold like that than with normal gold.

That's the idea yeah. I'm working on the standar bearers but the flag of the HäT set has many faults which makes it hard to paint it. What should be best, painting it, or just use some printed flags?

For flags it depends what you like?

The printed ones look great, but I likethe "model" aspect of a painted one. I usually cut off the flag and remove the pole totally, then use dress makers oins 6-7cm long to replace the pole. I use a yogurt (or some kind of stiff foil to cut a flag out (I exaggerate them a bit as big flags look nice) then paint each side one at a time.

Hmm.. I think I paint them but, not as they historicaly should be. The details engraved in the flag don't allow me to do that. They carried blue and white flags so I just paint one white and one blue. Here comes the 'flag fiasco'...

Looks like you've done it again Benno.

You know at some point your inability to get it right is going to start reflecting poorly on the rest of here at Benno's Figure Forum.

I thought of that yeah.. but this is easier haha. The flags they paint are 4 times as big as what I need to paint, and even they have sometimes problems with painting them.
The shoes.. well.. I kinda went with the box art. :silent:
