Wow, the winner this week has one of the finest minis I have seen on this forum. The colors are great and everything is perfectly readable especially I am drawn to how well the belt, and uniform stand out.

What kind of paints are they using? The color looks so uniform opaque and smoothly applied its hard to say it is painted. Any helpful hints? are you using especially fine haired brushes? painting in multiple thin washes?

No shame in losing to this, the other is well done as well, would be well accepted quality for my own collection.

Thanks, superb work this week!

Hi, it looks like the duel is over, so I'm going to give myself away.
I'm the author of the first figurine and I was inspired by this engraving because I wanted a figurine that was out of the ordinary :-D .

Congratulations to MrX for this duel and I wish him good luck for the next ones :yeah: .

I've noticed that the photos lose some of their quality after I send them by email, as mine are much sharper.

I'll post them again for comparison 8)

As for painting the belt, there's no secret: the figure was airbrushed in white, followed by an aggravated citadel wash and a drybrush in white.

The base colours were applied and the khaki strip in the middle of the belt was painted freehand, followed by various brushes to enhance the base colours, which were done in Citadel contrast and normal.

I didn't have time to take any more photos due to the recent events in France, but I promise that as soon as I get back from my well-deserved holiday, I'll take a few more.

I'm off to the Pyrenees for a week of relaxation

Excellent painted figure. You got my vote! Carabiniers are always cool but tricky and hard to paint. So congrats to both for taking the challenge!

Nice work on both! I ended up voting for raph86, but I really like whatever Mr. X has done for the little tufts of vegetation on the base.

You've really achieved an awesome figure, raph86, although Mr. X's was not bad either. My congratulations for both.

The tufts are a nice touch on Mr. X’s figure. It’s a fine looking one too, but would benefit from a little more light from the side in the photo.

Good evening, I've finally had time to take some more photos of my rider.

I've got a lot of miniatures being painted but as soon as I can, I'm making a few riflemen to go with my trumpet.

Another missed duel! Maybe should start to consider to skip vacation .... at least from Benno's.

Sorry I missed this duel as well. Both are very well painted but Raph's version really knocks it out of the park. sublime coloration is all I can say.
Cheers,
