My Zulus

Posted by Iceman1964 on 31 Mar 2024, 10:26

Hi all, and happy Easter to everybody.

There are dozens and dozens of dioramas on Zulu’s war, real icons in our minds, it’s time also for me to do something about the waves of warriors with shields and wood maces against the red jackets….

It will be a small diorama but very crowded, showing the wild fight at the mealie bags wall at Rorke’s Drift.

Here are some of the figures (Italeri, Call to Arms and Hat), the mealie bags wall (Italeri) and the first painted Zulu’s casualties.

Stay tuned :-D

As my post praising this magnificent project has been one of those that have gone, I repeat again what I said then. ;-)

Enrico, the figures you have chosen for this new diorama are an excellent selection, both the Zulus from Esci/Italeri and A Call to Arms and the British from Esci/Italeri and Hät, all of them great creations from their makers.

Likewise, the painted Zulu casualties look spectacular.

In the missing post I also mentioned that I like this subject so much that a few years ago I started to prepare a project called "Zulu Ambush", which I hope to finish at some point in the future and of which I have these outline pictures.

Go on with them, my friend!

Now it’s the time of the zulu warriors (still) alive :-) ! Others to come, then the British defenders …

Enjoy :-D

You have also done a superb paintjob on these alive Zulus, Enrico. I love the skin tones, as well as the textures of the different elements (shields, feathers, skins, etc).

Superb painting on these fierce fellows.

You have managed to capture the eyes well in my opinion.

That is a gift as the attempt in this scale usually results in the cartoon look.

Well done indeed.

Best wishes,

Chris
