It is an ancient tradition of Florence and Chianti wine, it started in the reinaissance when the typical Chianti wine rounded bottles get diffused to store the wine.
The Chianti wine farmers used to load pyramids of wine bottles on carts to bring them in town, qickly it became a celebration to the wine and to the Medici and the following lordships of Florence.
The model is inspired to the modern version of the Carro Matto still used in the celebrations... of corse during the history the carts developed and changed thanks to the genius and imagination of builders, there was also 2 wheels carts!
I wonder if the name "mad cart" came out when someone said "you must be mad to load a cart that way!"...
and I suppose during the centuries may eventually happened that carts sometimes could had accidentes, and even overturned destrying a fortune in wine and glass bottles... us Tuscanians are famous for swearing and cursing in the craziest possible way! so much noise for nothing apart relief, but is funny to see
I dreamed a model like this for ages, something not easy to do...
I started almost one year ago making a wine bottle and recasting it with resin.
A modern Carro Matto transports over 3000 bottles, at first I calculated I needed almost 600 wine bottles!
Then in the making with the scale approximation I got to fit "only" 430 bottles on the pyramid of my model... never mind
I bring ahead the work in many little steps, because I had to do other more serious works, after the Pyramid of bottles I obviously made the cart, and finally the traditional big "Chianina" oxen and the figure of the driver.
The details of the bottles and the driver...
And the Oxen.
Just few more details are still missing, some ropes and the bridles etc... which I will add at the end, after painted the actual model... then perhaps in one month or twoo, after one year, finally it will be ready to be shown in the galleries!
