Animals

So it's a done deal: No figurines of humans from my hands; it is too distracting from the important things... ;-)

Things like this:

a) The first cow for the herd of Scottish Highland Cattle

b) The first recently born "Highlander"

c) The female together with her offspring

Although he could make some British paratroopers... you can never have enough of those ;-)

After the lovable cattle i wanted try to form some smaller animals again. I think the beaver is an animal can be used very well in dioramas about all north american or european themes from ancient times to the mediaeval. At these times he was still very frequent before the quality of his fur became a favorite hunting prey. Fortunately, he's not extinct and his existance has recovered...

He is really small, hopefully the photos let recognize what it's supposed to be.

Stenfalk thanks for creating the beaver. You are right. Its usefull for exactly those northern regions that so many of us are working on.

This work of yours creates imaginary pictures in my head :-D : what about a beaver dam into one of my rivers? What about making scratch build trees with traces of nibbling at the base of the trunk? And other trees already fallen down by it.

You may consider to exaggerate the front teeth. Not because that is realistic. But because that, together with the flat tail, is the essence of this animal and it would be fun to paint them white so it will show off at macro pictures and even by watching it with bare eyes.

I could already think you will have this idea :-D. Therefore the cutting teeth are already designed with 2 fine wires from a loudspeaker cable. So they are only slightly exaggerated and you can see them yet.

If the beaver then dammed one of your rivers, you don't have to paint his teeth in white color. They are more orange because in the melt on the front side of the beaver-tooth is stored iron in various compounds. Really, this is not fun! Therefore it is more favorable to paint with yellow or orange; and it certainly looks impressive too!

Very nice beaver! Remember one time me and the missus walked by the seaside in the evening and we heard some quiet splashing and we both became quite exalted, but one bypasser said "Bah, it's just the beaver. He's here all the time!" We knew that he existed because we had seen his work, but that was the only time we saw him/her/it.

I`ve been a bit lacking catching up with Torsten and his animals. To much painting ,writing and far to much sleep I guess.Where do the days spin off to when one is happy and busy?
I Love the Highland Cattle and the Beaver.
Thanks to Mr, Cryns, Gunnar, will be setting out with his dog into the wilds, friendly like to see those Beavers in Sweden and with a clear intention not to hurt them. If we had those whistling toothed Beavers around here I`d pick one out, and call him Burty Buzz Saw. :-D BB

For me, each time it's a pleasant feeling to finish the sculpt of a small animal when afterwards everyone can see which one it's supposed to be.

But it can't be compared how i feel after these figurines have been experienced such a loving treatment as it was a few weeks ago by Dirk and Gunnar or in this place by Mr. Cryns. That's why i would like to thank the artists who already used my dogs and boars. You all make my imagination come alive. Hope to see still a lot of those beautiful pictures in the future ;-) .

I'm also happy about all visitors of my thread and all the nice comments too.

This has to be said now...
