Well spotted
Mind you I let it slip by saying "I´ll grab a table near the bar"
Herne is in fact a males only drinking and mud wrestling contest cunningly disguised as a Modell event.
The clue is in the herne part of the advertising. It´s pronounced
"Her ? Ne!" meaning
"no women !" in old miners slang of the 1920´s and 30´s. It was commonly seen as a sign on the pithead toilets of the period. Unfortunately, the Women Against Sexist Pits, stopped the use of such signs in the late 30´s.
Strangley enough, the Women Against Sexist Pits (or W.A.S.P´s) wore black and yellow clothing to be recognised, usually a scarf, a practice still observed by both males and females in and around Dortmund, usually on a saturday when the local footy side plays. Don´t ask me why though.
This and many other ludicrous facts are in my soon to be released book,
"How I can make up nonsense at the drop of a hat"
