Janissaries uniform of XIX century

Posted by Emperor on 29 Feb 2016, 21:35

I have a problem about Janissaries uniforme of XIX century...Mainly Janissaries were elite soldiers for many centuries...They were disbanded in 1826...Now there is many debate about their uniforme at beginning of XIX century...Namely I am intereste in period from 1804 to 1815...
On PSR for Zvezda Janissaries say that their uniform could fit for period until 1799...There is an old movie Intimate power that covers that period and rule of Sultan Selim the III and his disposal by Janissaries, in which they wore uniform from Zvezda set...Now what interest me is the usage of bork hat, or the iconic Janissarie head peace....Did Janissaries from year 1806 wore bork hat...I have a theory that period of 7 years from 1799 to 1806 was too short for them to remove all bork hats from usage...Also I saw on one presentation of Cegar battle that they presented uniform of Janissaire as traditional one...So if someone can help me with that period about Janissarie uniform in complete from 1804 to 1815...

@Sho- yes I saw that site...But still they write how they do not have exact data...I think they wrote how in Osprey book they use illustrations that are from previous centuries... I think the company called GerMan planed to produce some Napoleonic Ottomans, but for some reason they didn't do it... I know there was a new military order called Nizam I Cedid, they had new European style uniform...Janissaries revolted in 1807 and killed sultan Selim III...

But this is true, we don't have exact data. Only some illustrations.
Two regiments of Nizam don't haved European style uniform but European style drill. And bayonets.

Oh so...Well...The thing is I don't know what figures to use...Maybe Strelets Zouaves...They have turbans...For cavalary it is easy, some of Zvezda Sipahi and Italeri Mamelukes but for infantry it is hard...What do you think Sho, I think it is best to combine some of Strelets Zouaves and maybe for Nizam to use Strelets Russo Turkish war figures just painted from that period? I am not sure...

They had a lot of French help, even if French and Turkish alliance of that time was problematic...I think that alliance was established back in XIV century not sure, some time around Suleyman the Maginficent( correct me if I am wrong)...It was called the first alliance not based on faith...

Newline designs do an Ottoman Napoleonic range, with several types of infantry

Look here, it is Nizam I Cedid or New order illustration...Their head peace is similar as jannisary of XVI century, even if it is a little taller...I think if I cut on Zvezda set the feather and paint head peace whole in red, it can pass as Nizam I Cedid...

They have different from janissaries uniform, european belts and bayonets. No other turkish figure can't fit.
