Roman watchtower

Posted by Mr. Andrea on 18 May 2018, 10:43

Hi all. Building a roman watchtower to use as camp for my DBA battles. Got inspiration from the Zvezda plastic Roman fort (now out of production). Really happy about how the tower is coming out. So happy, that it may evolve into a full fort. Few more info and pics in my blog https://flowersinyourcannons.blogspot.de/2018/05/wip-roman-watchtower.html

Nice model, it reminds me of the one at Vindolanda.

I vote for the full fort.

Thanks for supporting the idea of the fort. I have in mind a modular fort, made of 90x90mm square tiles. It would allow adjusting to various wargaming situations. Any idea what I can use for the tiles? Thanks

The base tile material would depend on how many you'd require. I think 4mm balsa would be a good solid base.

A German supplier on ebay has 1000 x 100 x 4mm for Euro2.25 so it's not deadly

Thanks, Fred. Haven't think of balsa. That would be perfect. I go for it

May I ask where you need tiles? I am not sure if I got the correct translation...

Btw: Really a great project!

Hi Jan, remember our group project parade? I need similar square bases (tiles) for a modular Roman fort. 9 tiles in total, each 9x9cm. The lateral tiles will come with palisade, the corner ones also with watchtower and two in the middle with gate. In the central tile I'll put a couple of tents.
All together it will form what in DBA game is called BUA (built-up-area). Single tiles, used separately, can also represent camps, another terrain feature of DBA game.
Let's go for a beer and I will sketch everything on the coaster.
