1/72 Robotech Defender Sci Fi Model

Hey folks,

after a while of absence here is my newest work. Unfortunately it is not for myself. I did this for my friend Michel.


OK, this is an old Revell Robotech Model from the 80s. Michel wants to create a diorama and he purchased a very crap built and painted Robotech Spider Mech. These stuff is really hard to get. He gave it to me (as an old "Panzerbastler") to pimp and paint this model. While doing this I cursed it several times. I gave it some detail mostly with GW parts. After a spray basecoat in uniform grey I started with a washing and after that with drybrushing. While doing this THE MODEL BROKE DOWN COMPLETELY. So I was forced to start all over again. The 30 year old glue refused to stick anymore. I had to fix the legs (which were moveable before) with epoxy glue. So after rebuilding I gave it a wash with Armypainter dark tone, some drybrushing and varnishing. Adding some GW decals and Figures from Revell and Hecker&Goros (German Schnellboot Crew) to give it a cool Steampunk "German" look.

Hope you enjoy this model and the diorama Michel will create by using this "Schwerer Panzerläufer Loki" (Heavy armoured walker Loki)

great thing this, Thomas.
i like this crossover work very much and you inspired me a lot with it.
lightyears ago I used to build with these Robotech kits tanks for my space marines
but never as good as yours

Thank you mates for your kind and motivating words. I keep on trying to be more busy in modelling (and showing) the next months.

@MABO: Good luck for finding Robotech Kits. Very difficult to get and also quite expensive. The same models were sold in Japan by Bandai as far as I know. Revell only brought out the kits under their label in Europe. And be aware of old, already built kits. The material starts to get very crumbling after 30 years (the over-30-year-old-people here know what I mean)

@Observer: As I said I cursed this work several times for being so complicated. But I am very keen on Michels end product. And joint ventures like this are very pleasing. The sad thing is Michel will store this diorama about 300 Kilometers away from me. So I will not be able to see this very often.

@Old Wolf: My cousin and me built a Robotech Kit together (of course with no painting work) when we were about 10 years old. Pure childhood memories.

@Luchs: "four leg panzer" would be "Vierbeinpanzer" in German. We Germans have the exclusive possibility in our language to "chain together" many words for describing something in a very precise way. So this thing could be a "Vierbeinkanonenjagdpanzerläufer" "four legged armed destroyer tank walker"

@Peter: Michel said that? Shit, I already shipped the model to him this evening.

@Das Dirch: Sorry, no tutorial this time. I thougt about one when I started. But taking photos of me, cursing and swearing on a destroyed old sci fi model is not the way I want to show tutorials.
