cutty sark

Posted by dykio on 02 Apr 2008, 16:28

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted a lot lately (that is nothing at all) because i was painting some other figures. Yes i have to confess i have been painting some 28mm  ...... please don't hate me :(

And i bought a kit of the famous cutty sark 1:140, more than 60 cm (It was calling to me on a market buy me buy me. So for just 10 euro's i got myself a sailship !!) And since i have never done anything like this before i was wondering if anyone has ever build a ship and have some tips or tricks for me. Specially about painting these great surfaces.

Thanks for al the help

later

Yes indeed- many moon ago I bought that very model, well a 1/140 cutty sark anyway!

Paint all the bits before assembly, and highlight them. try to keep to fixed colours- don't mix then when you have to touch up after assembly you are not trying to colour match. Make sure you varnish before any rigging goes on- otherwise is clumps on the thread and looks terrible. And only rig with whatever they supply or fine acrylic Rayon (brand name) thread- 100% viscose- nothing else!

and enjoy it- I'mm doing 1.1200 ships at the moment- I think I'm going blind!

Ha die Dykio,

I am very interested in following your Cutty Sark project. A boat.......
I still have an unfinished one myself: A 1:72 Flower Class Corvette made by Matchbox, yes Matchbox.
I think that one is under construction for over 25 years now. Revell has the Corvette in collection now for more then 10 years.

Don't feel ashamed Dykio, this isn't a 100% 1/72 miniatures forum. Adam posted some 15mm and 28mm, even 10mm miniatures! I've posted some 15mm a while ago as well.

What did you paint?

Hi everyone,

Hi Martin, I will certainly post some pictures of the progress on the cutty sark. And looking at all the parts i think this project will keep me busy for the next 10 years or so.....

And thanks for the advice Adam. I hope i will remember your advice on the rigs when i start with them. Which will be around 2047 i hope

Hi Benno, I have almost finished ghan-buri-ghan and some warg-riders from lotr. And a Saruman-figure. I will post them next week.

I must say that i'm having trouble finishing things. There are so many figs on my table yelling that they want to be painted at the moment that i cannot decide which one to do first.....
Thus this ever happen to anyone of you that you just dont know where to start (my wife just read this and says how about the garden !!! :-D )

Oh Man...I thought this thread was gonna be about booze.

This isn't the HaT site Dykio, though I would never utter a cross word about that hallowed site, you can paint and post whatever you like here.

We've even been tolerating parson's bizarre 10mm fascination.

I'll take Old Gran-Dad whenever I can get it but, even Old Charter will do if I've got a can of Cokecola.
