Carthago Cavalry

Posted by sansovino on 06 Mar 2021, 15:26

Sorry, that I didn´t post anything in the last years. I was and I am still very frustrated that most of my fotos disapeared at first with the hosting services of photobucket and than by postimage. I am still searching a serious hosting service, but I won´t pay more than € 4 per month. Hope, that somebody can help me.

Now I dare to use imgur. I have painted and still more transformed figures and houses which I will present with a secure foto hosting service.

Now a first selection of my new carthagian cavalry in process. Most of the figures are originally macedonican or numidian cavalry from Zvezda. I have add armours and heads from other greek or carthagian sets of Zvezda and Pegasus, which I have partly reproduced with the material greenstuff.

sansovino--

Sad about Photobucket, a lot of us were hit hard by that whole deal.

But your Carthaginian cavalry are looking amazing! I can't wait to see how this project turns out.

I can recommend https://picr.de I am really happy with it!

And I am really impressed what you created. What might this dashing horde look like when painted. Please post more of your work.

Thenks for the first friendly responses and the advice too.

Much work was also to be done with the totally supersized shields of the macedonian cavalry which were been eliminated or replaced with smaller shields.

There will been follow libyan and celt-iberian cavalry too

Very nice work indeed.

Lots of dynamic conversions.

I am using Post Image and they have been very good indeed.

There is a premium service but the basic is free to use.

Let’s hope that continues.

Photobucket have reinstated my pictures but with their awful logo on them.

Best wishes,

Chris

Wow, nice job on the sculpting. What tools do you use, and how do you keep the putty from sticking to them, instead of the figures?

I have to say your sculpting is amazing and I love conversions, but green stuff sculpting takes it to a whole new level, you end up with sets of unique models! May I ask if you used a cast for the heads and such? The quality of sculpting is so great, if you did that from scratch then it'd be very impressive.

Thanks a lot for all your comments! I hope to present the painted miniatures in 2 or 3 days.

And to your questions, Pocho and Qwen: I use Blue Stuff as reusable mould material - it becomes very soft for 2-3 minutes after a bath in 60 Celsius water - then you can push your desired model (a head, body or other item) in it and take it out after 6 min. Then you can fill the mould with Green Stuff where it will become hard in 4-6 hours. And that you can make again and again, for more heads, helmets or shields.......

Hi Sansovino you are doing a great job here!
You are a great step on your way to create your own figurines.
Very nice to see how you make so many different ancient horsemen with lots of nice historic details added.

Dear Mr Cryns, my phoencian friend, it´s a honor for me to receive your sentences. I played indeed before covid with the idea of own mini-series, but all my financial reserves disappeared, when I have lost as freelance journalist more than 50% of my regular income with all these frustrating lockdowns - more or less rational lockdown-regulations. So it will last very long to return to this attractive idea.

I have finished my carthagian cavalry which was really a great fun.

Fantastic stuff.

The moulding technique sounds interesting.

How do you get the Greenstuff to be liquid enough to pour in a mould?

The potential here for producing casualties etc is tremendous.

Best wishes ,

Chris

Some exemplary horsemen! One of them has a palm tree shield and I have to say that I really like that detail.

Dear Chris, Green Stuff isn´t liquid. It is an elastic material which becomes fairly hard. You have to push green stuff with a certain force in the mould. It´s quite easy with small items like heads, hats, helmets or central bodies. You can use it also for many flat surfaces like roofs, tables etc.
It´s quite difficult with items with a growing diameter and very fine items like riffles or swords. And another weakness: you can´t use it to produce integral a whole man. It´s not like pewter or resin.
One advantage: it´s glue quite well to plastic bodies - and it´s pliable the first 40 minutes which make it´s interesting also for sculptural works like applications to figures (feathers, cartridges or new helmets).

I buy always 2-3 bars directly from the producer which makes it cheaper than the tapes.
