There is so much more out there. But it seems the typical member here is a man who enjoyed modelling in his youth but set it aside for years, only to rediscover the love in middle age.
Well, I fit the 'middle-aged man' description here pretty well !! I was an avid collector/wargamer up until my mid 20s, when everything else (work/career/family/house/other pastimes etc) took over. My cherished hobby was shelved for 20 years until my late 40s, and has only really blossomed again now that I have taken early retirement in my late 50s.
I'm sure that there are many other parallels with other 'modelling/detail' hobbies, such as model railways. I would not expect a much younger person to have the time or perhaps patience to undertake the mass-conversions that feature in some of my 1/72 collections; and why should they when very good 'ready made' solutions are out there? The likes of GW and Warlord Games cater very well for their markets and provide everything needed to build armies and to wargame. And in normal times my local GW Franchise shop is often busy, predominantly with people who are younger, sometimes much younger, than me. OK, so this is not 'historical' wargaming as we know it, but It is positive and good to see.
