The soldiers are preparing the defensive positions for the advancing enemy.

It has been some time, but here a small update from the front line:

I added more layers of static grass, some flowers, leaves on the trees and finally the camouflage net on the gun:

It is a good idea. I will add a bit more of camouflage net later I think.
Something in the way you used it with some toothpicks maybe... not sure yet, but it does look really great

New soldiers are on their way. I really like these Zvesda figures. They are nicely made with good details, unfortunately they looked all the same, so I had to do some modifications. One of them became a sniper, the others got additional equipment and different postures:

yes, i like that Zvezda AoT-Figs, too. Nice details, easy to convert. I like your litle conversions to make them look a lil bit different. Are these figs for your Pak-Diorama or for something new ?

These figures are still for the pak diorama. Afterwards it will be completed I think. Don't want to overload it too much, but these figures still fit on the road. Retreating and wounded soldiers while the pak and the others are covering them

It took some time, but I think this will be the final state.

Very nice indeed with great groundwork and lovely composition.

Some of the pictures really do capture the period.

It is a pity that the uniforms are shiny, material does not reflect light but those telegraph poles are lovely.

Looking forward to seeing it with backgrounds, it will be stunning.

Surpisingly it does look shiny, however I did use a double coat of matt varnish. It actually should not shine... I probably gonna apply another varnish with airbrush.
I will add a proper background in time.

A black and white photograph with proper background is a good idea
Will post it in time. Maybe in 3 weeks or so. Unfortunately/luckily I'm traveling for the next 2 weeks, so won't be any progress before that.
If you are interested in how I painted these soldiers, it is actually pretty easy. I used a light grey primer (valejo) and added 4 coats of "nuln oil" (citadel) wash. This will give you nice shading on the uniforms.
The rest is just painting, shading, highlighting...
For the ground work I used vallejo textures (mud), static grass and sand, crumbles leaves, small crushed rocks and some grass tufts. For the trees I used some sticks from outside and applied some leaves to it.

Remember to hide the join with irregular vegetation, buildings etc.

Do not follow the join line otherwise you get another ‘join’.
