Hi, the tails in the British army were docked for alleged hygiene reasons and also as an easy identification method on the battlefield.

In the Peninsular this led to much distress to the animals due to the lack of an efficient fly swatter.

Best wishes,

Chris

Well it was quite muddy.

The Italeri Greys were also one of the first sets I bought when I started buying figures again. They are really not my favourite set to be honest but I'm sure you'll make a lovely job of them so I will watch with interest and be happy to be converted.

We don't have the Saga ad here so I had to look it up on the internet. If it's this one:

Scots Browns wearing Bell topped shakos and Infantry jackets with flank company wings? If advertisers want to mock our hobbies should they at least be bound to the same levels of accuracy as we strive for?

The paint fell off. I had to restart with brushed primer.
The paint held better on the cream coloured plastic but it totally fell off the brown. MrsG wondered why I was making grey confetti.
The brown are poorer mouldings too.

I'm looking forward to the fun bit though. I get to impale 78 figures :-D

Did you soak them in water with dish soap and a little bit of bleach first?

I have all but given up on spray priming. I can't seem to avoid missing a spot.

Hey FredG,
that was my implementation of the attack of the "Scots Greys".
I built it in 2009. ;-)

http://www.fuhrmann-figuren.de/sammlerv ... oo1815.htm

I used kits from Esci No. 217 and Italeri No. 6001 "Scots Greys",
with very extensive conversions of the horses.
The heads with the bearskins comes from Hat kit No. 8170 French Guard Chasseurs.
Painting medium: oil paint

Maybe you can use something of it ...

Wow, Egbert, thanks for sharing the link to your diorama. I remember the first time I saw it and also the admiration I feeled for so huge conversion work made (any resemblance of the final figures with Esci's originals is pure coincidence).

Go on with your work, FredG, I think you have a long time and great effort ahead, but the result will be worth it.

Santi.

Further progress

The impaled in various stages of painting. I refuse to just paint one item 78 times before moving on

I still need to find some sword hand donors 8) or I take some Italeri troopers from scratch.

I also like it a lot! Have both sets painted, but wisely stored in the very dark and very locked cellar! Following your work with great interest!

Oh dear!

I yellow edged the turnbacks on a couple of officers. It looks so much better I'll have to do them all now. ( Even if they're going be displayed with the backs hidden)
