Gallo-Roman Temple in Winter Landscape

The project, of which the first stages are presented here, is now finished. Working with the model snow turned out a bit difficult and I have found no convenient way to fix it on the surfaces. Taking the photos was challenging, too, because the camera had problems to get the white balance right. However, the result looks acceptable for a first attempt at winter landscapes I think.

This is probably not my last post on this forum in 2019 – but it is definitely my last diorama to be completed this year!

An unusual project.
A few people for that huge area. And that worked well.
The military part the soldiers are only a side issue.
The snow look live like. People in thick or long clothes. My favorite is the one in white clothes close to the steps. The feeling of cold is everywhere.

Oh ! The soldier on the white horse wear a red T-shirt?

Yes, the issue of the winter clothes. There is a desperate need for ancients in winter dress, that’s for sure. To my knowledge, all available figures are
1) The Strelets set of legionaries , but these are only fighting poses which I couldn’t use here.
2) The excellent sets KSHG 242 & 243 by Hecker & Goros, which would have been perfect for the scene – but I have used them already elsewhere and I didn’t want to repeat myself.

My explanation for the soldiers in short sleeves shown here is: they are auxiliaries and originally come from the region – they are simply used to the cold!
