Caesar set 103 Undead alternatives

Posted by PaulRPetri on 15 Aug 2019, 15:21

I have noticed that 3 of Caesar's early fantasy figure sets have become impossible to find. Curefan lamented that the Dwarf and Adeventures sets are unavalible and I cannot for the life of me find the Undead set (103). Does this very knowledgable group of people have any suggestions for 1/72 skeletons? I am also puzzled that on the Caesar website all of the sets have an available status. I am on waiting list, on I think a Russian model shop, but they said the figures would be produced in 2-3 months which seems unlikely. Any help for 1/72 fill in skeletons would be appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Hello Paul,
I had similar situation, had indeed Caesar skeletons but i wanted more variety..
I went for these -maybe obvious- alternatives:

http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Sho ... aspx?id=40

http://theredbox.com.ua/set/66.htm

http://theredbox.com.ua/set/67.htm

In addition to that, I did many conversions from medieval "normal sets with odd poses.. Just making some cuts on nose and eyes to simulate skulls, you can get many neasy new skeleton recruits..
By the way sme examples in my blog:

https://sceavusall172.blogspot.com/2018 ... verse.html (only skeletor character related to topic)

https://sceavusall172.blogspot.com/2016 ... tions.html (here a pair of knights got this conversion pn face)

https://sceavusall172.blogspot.com/2017 ... chaos.html
(two Skeleton normans..)

Thank you Carlos for your tips. You have done some great work on your blog. I have a few boxes of the Dark Alliance undead guys and I like them a lot. But like you I want a variety of true skeletons. I am still having no luck obtaining the Caesar undead set. I may try casting my own as it looks as if the 25mm Prince August molds may work.
Thanks for your help.

Thank you for the visit and nice words,
Be careful with Prince august: ( i also tried that, believe me i did a lot of things for gettin more skeletons) indeed nice models and really fun by moulding with the actual feeling of beeeing a Metalurgic master, but sadly the figures are too big (25-28mm) maybe you can reprsent some brutes with them, but not so appropiate for big bulk of the army unftunately...
If you dnt have still the moulds and want to test , maybe you could use a pair of mine.. Just send me a pm..
In this area of big-but-not-giant metals have a look on these:

http://www.denizenminiatures.co.uk/
Legion of the damnedfigures (true 25mm..slightly larger than 1/72..good for Tumularies or undead heroes)
By the way I remembered two further possible useful 1/72 plastic sets:

http://72-multiverse.blogspot.com/2013/ ... rates.html

http://cheapfantasyminis.blogspot.com/2 ... pouri.html

Too pirate focused, but more skeletons here to consider..and always useful for conversions.

And possibly you also saw in my blog some gamepieces that can be hepful if yo got them (Defenders of the Realm and Battlelore)

Uff sorry so many info, I got a lot of activity on this topic some years ago

Can only agree with Carlos about Prince August. Bought some Nappie Prussian moulds before there were any plastic Nappie Prussians. Great figures, but there was no way I could use them with my Airfix and ESCI figures.

I was really hoping the Prince August stuff might work oh well. My search continues. I can only hope Caesar does another run on the Undead set. One can continue to hope I suppose.

Thanks for the replies.

I will try to run a test of the figures during this week (first I should find the moulds and metal!) and comparison pic for you, so you have a better direct opinion other than mine and Suso ´s :)
