The Duelling Field

Mr. X 2017 - 2018

Posted by Dad's Army on 27 Dec 2018, 22:25

Well guys, it's time to tell who this mysterious member is...
Our third Mr. X, in the foodsteps of Peter and Jan (Mabo)...
(I wanted to post this on X-mas day, but because of family meeting I couldn't startup my computer)

First of all I must say a nice guy, always reacts fast on his mail.
We had a little second game going on, he had to tell me who he was against when every duel was on.
I can tell you, his guesses were not as good as his paintjobs.
So a special thanks to you Mr. X
It sure was fun!

In his last mail he did post his identity finaly:

(drum roll sound...)

Concentration. This is only a simulation. No paint on the brush!

All entries assembled. August 2017 is missing because I gave it to a work colleague quite proud of his Greek ancestry. He liked it.

Thanks for all who dueled and voted. Even those who defeated me!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

Congratulations Bluefalchion on your active tour of 24 months of duelling.

Is there a Mr or Mrs X for next year waiting in the wings? Time will tell I suppose. BB

Nice post Dad`s Army.
And good pictures from Bluefalchion. That show me three things.
I am a little bit surprised about the cleanness of nearly all the color bottles we can see. Over the time a lot of my bottles get a line down of his own color. Or the often used ones the sticker is worn out, rubbed off. None of them like that is shown in the pic !

The second point is
"Pups often sleep while I paint and model."
Oh yes, one cat visit me often in my holy hall, lay down (First to pet. He have me well in hand) and start to sleep.
Of course there the only way is to leave my hobby place !

Finally the last insight is
THAT look like a working place.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It was a privilege to serve as Mr. X for the last two years. Thanks especially to Remco for all he did to set up the duels. It was a labor of love for both of us, and he went to elaborate lengths to conceal my identity, including having all donated figures shipped first to him. I know shipping internationally is not cheap, and he sent me many figures to the USA.

My warm congratulation Aaron! You've been an amazing Mr. X. It's also very nice to pair your nickname to a real face. Wish you a bright 2019. Next step for me: beers for Jan!

This was a fabulous series of duels over the course of two years Aaron; I think all of your opponents submitted excellent entries, but you submitted an excellent entry every month!

Very well done indeed, and yes, I did vote for you... but not every time. :-D

Thanks so much for the kind words, Graeme. You commented on many of my duels and I was also curious to see your reaction to the entries. I respect the work you have shown us on this forum, so it felt great to get positive feedback from you.

Dear Bluefalchion,

What a surprise, what a surprise!

Thank you so much for your message (thanks to Kostis whom I and my wife visited last summer in Crete where he lives with all of his family) but you have to know I am still a monthly paying Bronze member (not without a reason) of this forum so you can still contact me by private messaging and that counts for all of you.

Now back to the solving of that great mystery. Finally all pieces fit together for me.
For over three years now I wondered how my favourite commentator in Benno's Forum (which is you) attributed so many constructive posts without ever posting his own work and thus never asking for attention for himself and his own painting work or diorama's.

Now it turned out we have all been watching your excellent work all the time!
Respect for keeping that secret for two whole years.

And I am very delighted to finally see your face.

Regards,

Cryns

Hi Bluefalchion,,

a bit late, but never too late..
I wanted to say how much I enjoyed our painting duel. As you say, putting a lot of effort into one figure painting helps you progress.
I like all your figures - and your big Turk is big. And a missed Victory just by the breadth of a hair. :-)
Your presentation above is also a pleasure.

Greetings over the ocean
Michael
