Static Grass

Posted by FredG on 10 Apr 2018, 19:24

I made 3 small sheets of 10mm static grass today with the intention of seeing how the heather flock looked on the tufts.
The tufts came up very nicely in the two chosen grass shades but when the flock is added they look more like Carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus) than Heather.

Ah well I still have a lot of the tufts to play with :-D :yeah:

You have been watching too much Gardeners World!

However, they do look very nice as flowers and would cost a fortune through Noch etc.

Keep up the good work..

Best wishes,

Chris

I have a whole pack of that "Heather" flock. I just don't think I'll need that many bunches of Carnations.

That packet of flocking you showed us looked like it had green mixed in with the purple. How would it look if you covered bases with just the flock and left off the static grass? or glued the flock to the base in patches and added the grass in between.

I have some simple glued flocked bits drying off Graeme, We'll see how they look later.

In the meantime. These are the sheets of 10mm tufts I'm experimenting with.

I have the suspicion that I should be using shorter tufts, say 4mm.

Here's some white sand on a few tufts.

OK, I know, white carnations :eh:

It looks better without the static grass Graeme.

I'm still not convinced though.

Another quick test was with some 4mm tufts and fine lilac sand.

That's not too offensive. They look better at normal scale too.

Finally.
A little bit of corn. Two sheets made from different batches of 10mm. There is definitely a shade difference. I have some 6mm too and that is a third different shade.

That 'top dressing and mulch' has worked wonders.

Very nice result indeed.

Best wishes,

Just to get them all into the same thread, here's some I posted earlier.

The Cuirassier bases should be pretty good when I get the figures completed.

I did. As "The Perfect man", I´m not "Fresh off the Boat" so my "Rules of Engagement" say it would be "Too Close to home" to notice her "Body language"
