Medieval war

Posted by FatFather on 22 Jul 2015, 20:40

I suppose, You've never heard about Thirteen Years War between Kingdom of Poland and Teutonic Knigths. It was 1454-1466, and that time was the end of mounted, old fashion steel knigths in Kingdom of Poland.
I plan make dioram with part of battle of Chojnice.

I have these figures but have not painted them. Thanks for posting some great color choices. It looks like you made your own lances.

That's really nice! Those long lances make a cool effect. Good job.
I see knights, infantrymen and bowmen with sallets and bascinets. What figures are they? Caesar miniatures? They sound perfect for the Italian condotta army I want to build. Thanks for letting me know. Looking forward to seeing your diorama

Ben90, you are right. Shading needed, but I'm still make experimenting... Shadows on faces, clothes, weapon.
Mr. Andrea, this a mishmash, cause I'm making figures fo history of region. In my part of Europe every new things apperaed after 20-30 years later than in West Europe. In 13. Years War in polish side were figthing some kind mercenaries and feudal army. In Teutonic side, the most were mercenaries, but Teutonics had own army and arsenals. Mercenaries in medieval had "colonel", which employed soldiers, and their salary depended on weapon they had. For example: more money for shooter, less for halberdier. Feudal knigts have equip the team (3-4 people). I must remember about these nuances.
At this time I used figures:

or

Sorry, I don't remember...

From every set I took few figures, remembered, that weapon, helmets, arms changed, but no so fast in East Europe, and everything in Medieval period in Europe were mixed.

Wiking, terrain is waiting for grass, water and trees, and of course bloodhounds ready to fight, but the first... I must finish more six crossbowers. It will be over hundred figures in dio.

carlosfaro, I'm all fat, my fingers too, so 15 mm is to small for me. Some figures are from MiniArt, and RedBox.
From this set (http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=867), some of my friends use only horses, cause this set is cheap. I used knights to make some more cavalry in charge.
Thank you for your opinions.

And after two years, I've started to place some water. It was my first time with products of Woodland Scenic, and Magic Water.

The first I made base for water by glue for woods. After few hours this glue is transparent.
Image

On this base I put some greens, and trush to swamp. On border I've made colours base.
Image

Next step, Woodland Scenic swamp.
Image

I've made Magic Water. In instruction was wrote: "mix, mix, mix!". It's good advice. Clear water on swamp and effect is wonderful for me. Second part of Magic Water I've made mixing with acrylic paints.
Image

I used one paints with "Prussian" in name. Probably it was mistake  . As in good military maneuvers: "Blue side invated green side". It was my fault. I put dio od curved base. Except colours of blue water now I must change some more things.
Image

Thx for watching ;-)
