Bull Run 1861 WIP

Posted by Lacc on 18 Feb 2017, 10:39

Hello Hobbiemates,
I'm going to show step to step how I make one diorama, specificy "Bull Run 1861".
I'll go to use the Massimo Costa' set inspired in a beautiful painting by Don Troiani.

As the job more difficult for me is the base, my idea is make firstly the ground and more late the figures, slowly. The biggest enemy of our hobbie is the hurry, in my opinion.
I will use for modeling the ground this epoxy mix and for to imitate the corn field and wheat field, these kits of railway modelism.

I intend write one post in the forum once a week to show my advances.

Nice initiative, Lacc. I look forward to your development.

I agree. I keep telling that to others myself.
Before I joined this forum, some members wrote many tutorials about how to do a quick wall, how to do a quick tree. I did not understand the philosophy behind it.

You must be a Latin language speaker. Such a nice word. I run into this word every time I visit Italian websites about building model ships. It might be an English word too. But in Dutch it does not excist :(

Good luck with your project.

Hello all, hobbiemates! :-D
How I writed, I'm going to show my advances of this week.
Firstly, I have painted the base using the airbrush(colors: desert yellow and brown earth)
Image

Next, I made lights and shadows (shadows with dark paint very watered, I dont know the exactly right word ; lights with dry brush, desert yellow with white).
My idea is to imitate the lights and shadows of the terrain of the picture .. dark near the viewer, luminous in the center and little by little darken until get the earth color in the base of the corn...
Image

More late, I bended the corn and I painted it with airbrush(down with color kakhi and a little olive green, up with desert yellow)
Image

The same plantes with "pardo van dyck" oil very diluided. This gives a 3D effect and a "more organic" aspect, I think.
Image

Wheat painted with "yellow ocre", using the airbrush
Image

Finnish, with the oil very diluided

It's all, at the moment...
I hope enjoy with this post, thank's for reading ;-) :yeah:

Figures are a bit too small but they seem really nicely painted as much as I can see.
