G'day lads,

I am very humbled. It is indeed an honour to join the ranks of previous Golden Brush winners. A big thank you to those who voted for me over the last 4 weeks . and for those of you who didn't ...................well never mind but thanks for nothing

Congratulations to everyone who participated this time around, all good stuff. However I must make special mention of Helveticum who provided an especially strong rival who I had to try very hard to beat not once but twice!!!! Also to Brushpunk whose entry Beja Warband was my personal favourite. Surprised it did not go further IMO

I know some people thought my entry was "a bit boring" compared to some of the more lively entries and I'll wear that, but war is not always about fighting. I like to portray the more mundane and more common aspects of warfare. So in that regard I think the general consensus is I carried it off this time

My entry depicts the New South Wales Lancers of 1898 deployed to South Africa during the Boer War. Australia at this time was a collection of independent colonies who did their part by raising their own units in defense of The Empire. Within 3 years Australia would become a single nation after Federation in 1901 and have it's own truly national Army.

The figures are Strelets and this is my first time painting any Strelets figures. It is an unusal subject choice, not only for me but for the manufacturer as well.

Have you sent pix to Strelets for their website? - They might even send you complimentary copies of forthcoming sets to work on, as HaT sometimes does...
On the other hand, they might be afraid that other collectors might quit the hobby in despair...
