The “Bennos Figures Forum Famous Waterloo Project” (BFFFWP)

Posted by MABO on 16 Jan 2015, 19:35

Hello friends!

At the beginning of the year 2015 I would like to offer you a project at Bennos Forum:

The “Bennos Figures Forum Famous Waterloo Project” (BFFFWP)

This year, I guess you all know, on the 18th June is the 200th anniversary of the battle of Waterloo. And therefore I like to build a special kind of diorama representing or better symbolising the historical place in Belgium.

Of course I would do this with different figures, but - most important - with all of you who like to take part.

My idea is to represent the different armys, nations, and different armed services with figures from different manufacturers, that are important for our hobby – like some kind of an overview. Therefore it is regardless if the figures are the best for a topic, but if they are important or significant in one way or another.

To develop the project, I have made a list and mentioned all the figures I would like to use for the diorama. In some cases it is a special figure in a set. Sometimes not. The selection is personally, of course, but I hope it is also valid for some of you, who like to join the project. The most popular plastic figure companies are part of the selection. Also some 1/72 tin figure producers. I know there are much more, but I think the selected ones are popular and well known. They are producing figures in 1/72 scale and those fit for the final stage of the Napoleonic Wars.

Important for me was also to use figures of companies who are active in the forum like Germania-Figuren, Hagen Miniatures, Schilling-Figuren and Fredericus-Rex. Unfortunately in this special case: Not all of them made figures representing the time of 1815. But I would like to buy and use other things from their ranges to present them in the BFFFWP, e.g. for the groundwork.

So what is the plan? Please choose one or more figures, you would like to paint. Then send me a PM so that I can coordinate the project. I will give actual updates which figures are free to paint. After you have painted the figure(s) send them to me and I start to build the diorama.

My aim is to present the result at the FIGZ in Arnheim for the first time. A special thing for all the friends who are there. Finally on the day of the anniversary, the 18th June, I will post pictures in the forum.

For all of you who are far away ans could not come to the FIGZ in Arnhem: Think about the possibility to show your work in this way... :winky:

So please send me your figures till the end of April. I will Need the time to finish everything.

Further infos will be added due to the progress.

And here it is the list of figures I would like to paint and assemble on a board to set the scene for two hundred years of Waterloo:

Napoleons Army of the North

French Line Infantry:
Airfix French Infantry / marching, advancing or firing pose (Gunnar)
My first set of Napoleonic figures back in 1982
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=44

Strelets French Army in Advance / one of the figures in the second row (Paul)
One of the few sets of Strelets, that can be used for Waterloo.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1581

Zvezda Art of tactic Napoleonic French Line Infantry (Pascal)
One of the new kind of Sets Zvezda is actually producing. Art of tactic.
http://www.google.de/imgres?imgurl=http ... KMBEK0DMCg

ESCI French Line / every figure but not the command group (Santi)
Not correct for Waterloo, even not correct at all, but a set a lot of collectors started with.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=102

Italeri French Line / Voltigeurs or Grenadiers (Rich)
In my eyes a very cool plastic set for June 1815
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=887

Odemars French / one figure pressing against the gate of Hougoumont
In combination with the british counterpart representing the small companies from eastern Europe
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1299

Schilling French Inf. / standard-bearer (Jan)
He is the ensign for the French Line Infantry
very nice figure from this manufacturer

http://www.shqminiatures.co.uk/Ranges/2 ... 32.235.105

viewtopic.php?f=157&t=16571 :winky: :winky: :winky: (I will pay...)

Imperial Guard Infantry:
Zvezda Imperial Guard / waiting, presenting arms (Konrad)
Wonderful set in my eyes. One of the big sets of the Russian company that inspired, but is going to vanish some day.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=835

Revell: French Grendadier Guards / “Last stand pose” (Gunnar)
classic set and very important in any collection as one part of Revells Napoleonic range
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=312

HäT: French Guard Chasseurs / advancing or marching pose (Rich)
one of the two existing sets of these unit. But the Strelets one is for a winter setting.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1307

Art Miniatures Young Guard Trialeurs (Jan)
a famous german tin-figure producer. When I started collecting and painting a lot of units are only available from him.
http://www.schmaeling.de/napoleonische- ... arde-1.php

Franznap: Marines of the Guard (Konrad)
As far as I know there are only 107 men present at Waterloo and not in this uniform I assume, but I would like to add this fantastic set from Francesco Messori. So just let it happen...
http://www.franznap.jigsy.com/SHOP#!/Fr ... y=10028354

French Cavalry of the line:
Airfix Curassiers / the fourth figure in the first line was my hero when I was a child. (Martin)
So a must have set for me in this project.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=40

Zvezda Cuirassiers (Paul)
The most famous french cavalry units. There are so many men fighting in this battle so for me no problem to add another cuirassier from this very fine set.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1595

Italeri French Dragoons (Paul)
The classic line cavalry and this set was the first that appeared.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=506

http://www.franznap.jigsy.com/SHOP#!/Fr ... y=10028353

Strelets French Husars (Sascha)
Strelets made so many sets that made him an important producer. I choose the Hussars.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1218

French Guard Cavalry:
Revell French Mounted Guard Chasseurs / a riding Guardsman (Kurt)
Napoleons Guards and a set from Revell I really like. Maybe it will be reissued when the new combiset comes out. Actually it is hard to get but – I guess – in a lot of collections.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=316

ESCI Polish Lancers / Lancer (Gunnar)
A classical ESCI Set reissued from Italeri. Also one of my first sets when I started collecting figures.

Representing the Horse Artillery
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=202

Franznap French Artillery Train Command (Konrad)
http://www.franznap.jigsy.com/SHOP#!/Fr ... y=10028360

French Wagon:
Italeri Napoleonic Wars Accessories / plus two figures on it. (Soehnke)

Anglo-Netherlands Army

Great Britain – Line Infantry
ESCI British Infantry / British Line Soldier (Sascha)
First basic set and a must have in this project. Highlanders will be mentioned as well (see below).
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=92

Revell British Infantry / British Soldier for a square (Gunnar)
Another standard version and my favourite one.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=313

Italeri British Infantry 1815 / last row first pose. (Predrag)
The new set from Italeri with the interesting figure of the 28th (North Gloucestershire) regiment at Waterloo
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1188

Strelets British General staff / Officer (first figure 7th row) (Chris)
A set that is very rare. It was one of the first sets that offered such a wide range of staff figures in plastic. And on the other hand a chance to add another figure from this active producer.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=868

Revell 95th Rifles / Hiding and shooting or loading (while lying in the sand pit near La Haye Sainte) (Dirk)
For me the best set in plastic for presenting the sharpshooters.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=318

Airfix Highlander / firing or loading (Jorge)
Also not the best figures for these units, but the champions in the memory of childhood.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=575

ESCI Highlanders / Piper (Kurt)
ESCI needs one more figure and the Highlanders need a Piper.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=92

Great Britain – Guard Infantry
Art Miniatures 1.Footguards (1.Corps, 1.Brigade Maitland) / Ensign (Jan)
The British Ensign for the diorama. A very nice figure, in my eyes, to add to the scene. Beating the Guard in the end.
http://www.schmaeling.de/napoleonische- ... raeger.php

Odemars Brits for Hougomont (2./ Coldstream Guards) / A figure closing the doors of Hougoumont (Chris)
Corresponding Set to the French Infantry
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1292

Great Britain – Cavalry
Revell Horse Guards (Paul)
The one and only set for the Life Guards
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=317

ESCI Scots Grey (Marvin)
I saw this set painted and displayed in my local toy store 16 years ago and it was my start collecting figures. So it must be part of the diorama. And generally speaking, these Scots had ridden into the pages of history.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=93

Italeri British Light Cavalry 1815 / No strange horse (Paul)
Another new set form Italeri, that is a good addition. Even if the riders are very tall.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1241

Great Britain - Artillery
Airfix British Horse Artillery / The officer with the telescope in both hands and a gun. (George)
A very cool figure that, in contrast to the ESCI sets, is using both hands while looking towards the enemy. Might be Captain Alexander Cavalié Mercer
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=593

A Call to Arms British Artillery / Gunner with a canonball.(Paul)
One figure of this manufacturer must be used as well. They are on the market for years as well.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=600

British – Wagon
NR-BR01 Westfalia / Schilling
http://www.schilling-figuren.de/product ... cts_id=685

British – Personalities
Art Miniatures Wellington
http://www.schmaeling.de/napoleonische- ... keiten.php

Strelets British General staff / Earl of Uxbridge (Chris)
The best figure I know with the correct uniform of the General
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=868

Hanoverians:
A German contingent of Wellingtons army. I would like to display them with:

KAMAR Hannoveraner
Two fine set from Andi with the Soldiers waiting or forming a square. (Andrea)
http://kamar-zinnfiguren.de/de/Massstab ... 1-72-.html
or:
http://kamar-zinnfiguren.de/de/Massstab ... 1-72-.html

Art0353
Luneburg Jagers 1813-15, advancing (Jan)
a special unit also from Art Miniatures, and also no longer available but I have a set I can use.

Newline Design Hanoverian Landwehr Command
The Flagbearer comes from Newline Design and carries a flag from one of the Landwehr Contingents.
http://newlinedesigns.co.uk/index.php%2 ... ts_id=7051

Bremen and Verden Hussars or Lüneburg Hussars not present at the battle but a colourful unit that can be made with
ESCI Light Dragoons (Marvin)

http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=105

Kings German Legion:
Art-Minis 519 KGL Baring 2.Light Battalion also no longer available but in my collection.
The famous unit that holds out at La Haye Sainte. Another must have in the project. Jan (MABO)

Art Miniatures Ensign / Bearing the Flag of the Black Brunswickers (Jan)
http://www.schmaeling.de/napoleonische- ... nterie.php

HäT Brunswick Leib-Infantry (Rich)
For me a good addition, because it is a Plastic-Set.
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=139

Newline Brunswick Cavalry Lancers
This is the icon for the small cavalry unit.
http://newlinedesigns.co.uk/index.php?m ... ts_id=7188

Dutch Belgian contingent

Dutch Belgian – Infantry (Bylands Brigade 1.Corps / 2. Division /1st Brigade)

MABO I must admit this is very interesting to me. Question - if painted and submitted how would you like them? Painted only/Painted and based/painted and cut from base? Does it actually matter since this will be such a large undertaking?

I hope a lot of members will join this project. It can't be to hard to paint one or more figures for this Waterloo/FIGZ project. Never before we did something like this, so now is the moment! :-D

For myself I have taken one figure of the Prussian army, and updated the list. After that I will have a look what is open to pick another one (or more). Now let see what we can get finished before the last week of April! ;-)

Meaning is that we keep this topic as clean as possible, so that Jan not looses the overview of this project. So from time to time there will be post deleted. An example: When you let Jan know here that you will paint that or that unit, the list will be updated in one of the three head posts, and your post will be deleted by one of the moderators.

Maybe some pictures when a figure is done for the project? I think a separate topic would be a good idea. One for all of them should be best: Pictures "The “Bennos Figures Forum Famous Waterloo Project” (BFFFWP)".

Good question of Rich. Jan can you give us an answer?

Hi Mabo, I offer to you free range of my painted 1/72 Napoleonics for Waterloo, I have British, Dutch , Belgian, Nassau & of course French, are you only looking for stock figures or would you be interested in some of my converted figures ? such as the French line lancers. As I said you are welcome to what you want ( within reason eg: not my entire collection :-) )

Hello friends,

thanks for your support. I hope as well that we can assemble the figures for Waterloo.

First of all: For one unit only one single figure is necessary. So if you like a unit or a special set you would like to prepare. Only one figure not the whole box.

In the description I have sometimes pointed out which one. That is for some reasons personal but I also have in mind that we have a variation in the poses. Not only shooting, marching etc. And for the French Old Guard I choose the wanting pose because they have to wait for a long time that day as the final reserve. That is the reason why I have written some more or less precise descriptions for the figures.

The bases: I think it would be best to have them only with the normal base they have. There is no need for a special work on the base because I will fix them in the ground, so the base will disappear.

@Peter: I think it would be helpful if you or another moderator would add and advice which figure every participant had chosen. So one can see the figures still free. I will start with the Kings German Legion 2.Light, from Art-Miniaturen. This set is in my collection and on the other hand no longer available.

I hope to get a lot of entries. :-D

Thank you very much but according to the idea, I would like to give the decision back to you. Maybe in the list of figures there is one you like and would care of painting. This should also be a overview of the taste and work of a lot of members here.

It goes without saying: In my eyes you are a very skillful painter and it would be an honor to have a figure painted by you in the diorama :notworthy:

Hi MABO.
Finding the Battle Plan I just Posted, and now seeing this Project, it might help too in a small way because it goes together in a puzzle like way. I have lots of figures painted and Based,so no good for your purpose, however I do have others that you have listed part painted, but no metal ones. I`ll let the good painters send in first ,and then if you are stuck for any that I can finish off,I would love to take part and send them on.Are there going to be small type buildings on your Diorama? Very short notice to design and down size & scratch build some now,but not impossible.

Image

By the way the problem with the Strange Horse by Italeri with its broken ankle to its back leg I solved months ago,in my Topic on Tutorials:How to Create Cavalry Regiments. There is no cutting involved for those interested in taking a look. It is not perfect but now it can be used along with the others. BB

Hi Jan. Let me get clear (sorry): You meant we paint just 1 figure from each set from your list?
I have Italeri British Infantry 1815 so I can do that and I have 95th Rifles but from Italeri.
If you chose any figure from Italeri 95th I can paint it as well.

I could do more but those are only sets from your list that I have on my stash.

For the same postage why not a box full of Infantry ,and one box of Cavalry? 45.000,Infantry in one week, plus 17.000 Cavalry going on a Diorama. However this is a Big No,because where are all the guys who used to post gone? I`d love to do it. It would be a Dream come true, Massed Formations_________ Great! BB

I think it is best that everyone says what figure/unit he wants to paint. And if you are planning to paint more as one, then wait for sending them at Jan untill the last week of April.

@Dalibor: do you sign in for the British infantry? And maybe for one of the kneeling rifles? Maybe I take the two kneeling of teh Revell set. Then he has them all four. Oh and please do give me some help with updating the main posts of this topic.

@Jan: it might be that you get some more figures as you asked for. Is that a problem for your diorama?

I suggest that if everybody are sending one to 4 figures, everybody is sending it by a letter...Post costs for letters are minimums...I think 20 figures can fit nicely into a big envelope...

Hold on boys!

Please do not sent more than one figure of each kind. The character of the diorama idea is that the units or armed services are represented by only one single figure each! On the other hand I am unable to handle a dio with more figures than mentioned on my list. (@BB no massed formations, please. I have only a small room for the hobby  :-D )

@Peter and Dalibor
Also I have chosen a wide variety of companies and manufacturers. This means it is also "important" (a diorama is not important, I know ;-) ) that you take the figures from the companies in the list, otherwise I think there are not all companies represented. So the 95th Rifles should be, please, the ones from Revell and not from Italeri.

Update:

Peter has chosen Gneisenau from Art Miniaturen

Emperor is going to paint Italeri Britsh Infantry 1815, first pose last row
(@Dalibor: Sorry but he was the first who takes this figure. But I would really appreciate if you would like to paint another one. It would be great to see part of your work in the project as well!!!)

Blucher1815red: had chosen two figures: Strelets British General staff / Officer (first figure 7th row) and Strelets British General staff / Earl of Uxbridge

Konrad is painting a Zvezda Imperial Guard / waiting, presenting arms

and I am painting the Kings German Legion: Art-Minis 519 KGL Baring 2.Light Battalion

I am looking forward that BB choses a figure he would like to add to the project and Bramble as well.
Remco is thinking about a figure from the Netherland contingent as far as the secret service has told me. Further details when I have them.

So maybe others will find a figure as well??!!

I have sent in my tiny list of chosen figures, and I now await a reply.
As this is a once in a lifetime chance to do such a Waterloo type Group Build Diorama, I would like to encourage others to take part in this bold enterprise ! Perhaps if you are not a Member, you might wish to join, which then allows you to take part too. That would be Great! BB
