Battleground 2014 will be taking place on Saturday November 29th, at the Queen's Campus Sports Hall in Stockton-on-Tees, running from 10am until 3pm.
Hosted by Pendraken Miniatures along with Middlesbrough Gamers Club, this show was formerly known as Smoggycon, but for 2014 we've got both a new name and a new venue!

Image

Entry to the show is only £3 per person, and after it proved a success last year we'll be keeping the free entry for SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) and free entry for the kids as well (Under 14's)!

We've increased the trader selection this year, with 36 companies pencilled in at this stage, covering a huge variety of genre's and scales. New traders for 2014 include:
- Baccus 6mm - The 6mm specialist, offering a wide variety of ranges and accessories for the 6mm gamer: https://www.baccus6mm.com/
- Wargames Emporium - After being unable to attend in 2013, the guys from Wargames Emporium will be back for 2014: http://www.wargamesemporium.co.uk/
- Beanie Girl - A local shop, selling a wide selection of games and more: https://www.facebook.com/beaniegirlstore
- Cozzmic Cakes - Bringing an element of sugary fun to the day with their themed cakes: https://www.facebook.com/CozzmicCakes?fref=ts

We've also got a great selection of display and participation games lined up, encompassing wargaming, modelling and RPG'ing.

The Flea Market is a great option for any unwanted goodies, where for only £1 per half hour slot, you can sell as much as you like, with no commission at all! You can deal directly with the buyers, answer any questions they may have, and also keep an eye on your goods. Once your time is up (or better still, you’ve sold everything!), you can walk away, cash in hand, and enjoy the rest of the show! The Flea Market was booked up all day last year, so make sure to book in advance if possible!

For all of the info on the traders, games, flea market and more, head over to the new Battleground website: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/ or Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BattlegroundShow?ref=hl

And please make sure to spread the word about the new name and venue, we don't want to lose anyone in the move!

With it being a new venue for this years show, we want to make sure we don't lose anyone in the move! To that end, we've put together pdf's for travelling by road, along with basic directions for those coming by bus/train as well.

By Road:
Coming down from the North on the A19 (Sunderland, Newcastle, Scotland, etc.) - http://www.pendraken.co.uk/FileBin/BattlegroundDirectionsNorth.pdf
Coming from the East on the A66 (Middlesbrough town, Whitby, Scarborough, etc.) - http://www.pendraken.co.uk/FileBin/BattlegroundDirectionsEast.pdf
Coming up from the South on the A19 (York, Harrogate, Leeds, Sheffield, etc.) - http://www.pendraken.co.uk/FileBin/BattlegroundDirectionsSouth.pdf
Coming over from the West on the A66 (Darlington, Cumbria, etc.) - http://www.pendraken.co.uk/FileBin/BattlegroundDirectionsWest.pdf

By Bus:

Regular services run from Stockton and Middlesbrough to Teesdale and X1 services from Newcastle, Durham, Sedgefield and Middlesbrough stop outside the Holliday Building on University Boulevard. There are several bus stops on the campus, the closest ones for Battleground being either the Holliday Building stop, or outside the Stockton Riverside College.

By Train:
East Coast Main Line operate high speed services from London, York and Edinburgh to Darlington, with a connection to Thornaby Railway Station.

The Transpennine Express provides a direct approximately hourly service from Manchester Airport, Manchester, Leeds and York to Thornaby.

Northern Rail operate a regular service from Saltburn to Newcastle and Bishop Aukland that stops at Thornaby and Durham.

Once you arrive at Thornaby Station, climb the steps and turn right onto the footbridge. Walk over the footbridge and turn right along Station Street. At the roundabout go straight over onto Harvard Avenue, signposted 'University Campus', with the glass fronted buildings on your right. Continue down this road, past the entrance to Stockton Riverside College, until you reach another roundabout. Turn right here, signposted 'University of Durham'. As you reach another roundabout, the venue will be to your right, a white and grey building with the curved sports hall roof visible and 'Durham University Sports' written on the side.

With only 3 weeks to go until the show we've got one final addition to the trader lineup, with Tabletop Workshop now attending the event. They'll be bringing their excellent range of 28mm hard plastic buildings and terrain, so head over and have a browse through their products here: http://www.tabletopworkshop.co.uk/

We've also confirmed nearly all of the games as well, so we'll have those details finalised soon hopefully.

Finally, bookings for the tabletop sale can now be placed by contacting Middlesbrough Gamers Club. Contact details can be found here: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!tabletop-sale/c1nf9

Battleground 2014 will be taking place this coming Saturday, 29th November, at the Queens Campus Sports Hall in Stockton-on-Tees, TS17 6BH. We've added direction pdf's for every direction, so download those from the website here: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!venue/chhf and here's a map as well, just in case:

We've got 35 traders and 21 games this year, with several new companies added to this years line up. Head over to the Traders or Games pages of our website for all the details on those: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!traders/c24i2 In unfortunate news, Cozzmic Cakes has been taken to hospital this weekend and will be unable to attend. We wish Corrine all the best and we hope she's feeling better soon.

Our Tabletop Sale is being run by the Middlesbrough Gamers Club and will be open for bookings from 9:30am. Here you can hire a 6ft table for £1 per half hour to sell any unwanted goodies you've got laying about, then once your time is up you can head off into the show and spend you hard earned pennies!

Catering on the day is provided by the Aroma Cafe, situated on the other side of the car park, and it will be open from 8am for drinks and 9:30am for hot food. The location of the cafe is shown on our layout map:

Thanks to everyone who came along yesterday, visitors, traders and gamers!

The numbers were slightly increased from last year, which is a great result when moving a show. The Queens Campus was also a much better venue than the old one and the majority of the feedback we've had so far has been very positive. As with any change of venue there are a few creases we need to iron out, but we'll get those sorted and we'll be back next year on Saturday 28th November 2015!

We'll also be uploading the pictures, and putting together a proper show report, in the next few days, so we'll pop that up once it's done! Thanks again to everyone!
