WWI 100th Anniversary GB: Austrian Sturmtruppen. (FINISHED)

Posted by KGV on 20 Jan 2014, 12:29

So this will be one of my contributions to this GB.

A group of 28mm Austrian Stormtroopers from Scarab Miniatures. They may or may not get used in the future for gaming. Not sure how many I have, but somewhere around 24/30.

So, will keep updates every now and then, and see how it goes....

A quick update.

So I will be doing these in groups of 6-8 figures, otherwise it just to be too much trouble :(

I cleaned them up and got rid of the mold lines. Some are quite good with very little work, others have quite a lot of flash on them. I have had these figures for about two and a half years, so I guess the castings may have got worse. Still, they are nice figures.

Once cleaned, I sprayed them matt black...
Image

When dry I gave them A light drybrsh of grey, this helps to see what you are painting as black tends to hide all the detail.

Then the base uniform colour was added...

Thats as for as I have got, so next update in a couple of days.

Thanks for the update, they are nice figures now that we see more details

Just a quick question does the base coat covers your dry bush? Or you had layers of diluted base color to not overwhelm the details added previously.

I ask this because we are "comfortable" to paint in a way, and when we see other ways and we stay curious :-D and so our skills can improve, its to see the same mountain in a different perspective.

Mai Strac: That is where they are going, maybe see you there ;-)

armpcm: Just a basic coat of paint straight out of the pot, over the grey drybrush. This will be drybrushed again to get the desired shade. I'll get some pictures for the next update.

Update time...

First a photo for armpcm....

Image

First figure has had quick drybrush with a light grey, second has had the base unform colour put on, nothing fancy, justsplash it on, as it will be drybrushed again as in figure three.
This is done with the same grey, just to tone the original colour down. This one took two drybrushes, but it got the shade i wanted.

It looks a little bright, but that will mostly go at the end.

So, details now added

Next up in a few days .

So, onto the basing. All figures were put onto 25mm MDF discs.
Image

Then they were covered with filler.
Image

When dry, they were painted with a thinned down earth colour
Image

Static grass was added, and that is it.

Finished stuff in the next post this afternoon.
