What Movies / TV Series / Documentary Inspires You

Posted by armpcm on 22 Aug 2013, 15:07

Hi all,

Have been recently updating my films data base and came up with the idea of a poll of movies that inspired me, so I thought of sharing it with you and asking also creating a poll to see if there are similarities between us.

Hey Pedro,

I could have picked a couple more movies, and a lot more that aren't in the list. Zulu Dawn for example is one of them. I like those movies with a historical background. ;-)

Hi,

Peter and zzed thanks for the votes and for your input.

What do you guys think I discharge the pool and we keep replying and give 10 movie options each, that way we can have more areas/ages covered since the pool only allows 30, that way we create a must see movie list for inspiration.

Well I picked mine, could have had more. Cross of Iron, All Quite on the Western Front, Passchendaele and Paths of Glory spring to mind.

But you can't list them All :-)

Nobody says Gettysburg, Gods and generals, stalingrad, Ran, Cold mountain (not a good movie but they recreated a rare battle) Napoleon ( 2002) , Waterloo, Austerlitz, Gallipoli, the lost batallion ( well this one is a real crap movie but the whole movie is full of action) Ride with the devil...

These great movies too, also Cross of Iron as somebody said must be the first in that list :b

There are a few films on the poll that I would choose though I chose Master and Commander. Choices are so hard as it depends on my mood at any given time.
I love The Battle Of The River Plate and Master and Commander and tons besides Though to be honest Soundtracks inspire me even more and right now on my playlist are Iron Sky, Sucker Punch and Kick Ass. If I'm doing ships I turn more to Master and Commander and Sea Shanties and other boaty film music.

For painting my Napoleonics any Sharpe episode or Waterloo will cover it for me.

Good morning all,

I predicted the 30 options from the poll wouldn't suffice for all of the inspiration from each and every one of us, so for I decided to terminate the pool and just keep track of inspirational movies and open the gates for TV Series and Documentary's.

So sorry to everyone who voted, and let´s see If I don't forget no suggestions so far.

Good morning
To armpcm
You are a portuguese like me, so do not forget CHAIMITE.
I saw this film for the firs time in 1962, one year after the beginning of the war in Angola, when I was an eight year boy- It was an organised event, all the school went to the cinema (Il was the old Cine Pátria et Beato, in Lisbon).
If you have not seen the film you can find it (at least some parts) on the internet.

Regards

Mário

Sharpe And Hornblower on TV, great, but what realy inspired me, was a T V add concerning The Battle of Waterloo! Although I never bought the Item, I was hooked and I began painting model soldiers. That was about 10 years ago, and rest is history.
