Heiden - International Small Scale Convention

Posted by MABO on 06 Oct 2012, 21:38

I am the first to write after visiting the Small Scale Convention. First of all: Thanks again to Dirk for the initiative and the organization. You did a great job - including sewing ;-)

I have met so many nice guys there and could not finish my Strelets Guard Chasseurs (Tribute to Konrad who could not be there  ) because I have to talk and look around: Great exhibits from all kind of modeling. I think some of the others take some pics. And I think you will get more infos later here:

http://smallscaleconvention.jimdo.com/

Lets meet there again!

I totaly agree with Jan here

It was a nice day, I did work on a (to big for here) Asterix figure, but didn't finish it as well because of much talking, looking around, and I also did buy a few shermans and a zwezda 1/100 snap it kit from a soviet 3 ton truck.

Also did meet some other forum members, who wheren't in our group.
The shop of Taipei was amazing, and I am in love of the pirates kit in the small boat.
It was on my wish list for my birthday, but now it's on top of it

I did take a few photo's with my mobile phone, not much, but Dirk did make many and promised me to put them here, so you guys have to wait for that!

It was a pleasure to meet you all there, hope to see you all ( and others ) soon!

A nice day it was!

Hey there!

For me, it was a very great day out with the boys. A really great convention that showed a well-dosed mixture of sellers and modelling clubs (like ours). There was so much to see that you could have easily spend hours in the hall. My compliments to the organizers of the show - all people (visitors as well as exhibitors) to whom I spoke enjoyed the event very much.

I even found enough time for painting - at least enough to bring my Spanish Peninsular command figures into "pre-shading&highlighting" status. :-)

As you can see here, we were all very busy...
Image

Well... at least some of us.
Image

Many of the shown work was in 1/72. Although some were smaller...
Image
Image

And even smaller (note the coin!)
Image
Image

This here is built into a large picture frame with a box placed in behind of it, so the scenery gets a great 3d effect:
Image

And this one here (no chance to make pictures without light reflex, mmph) has been build into what looked like an old table watch hull. The great thing about it is the 3d effect again - it looks as if the birds inside are flying freely (haven't seen how they are fixed):
Image

Many of us have already seen pictures of great work like this:
Image
Image
Image
...but seeing it with your own eyes is even better.

This here is really large:
Image

Oh - there was an element of the Croebern mega-diorama at the show as well:
Image
Image

Roman watchtower...
Image
...and training court. Can you hear the centurions shouting orders?
Image

This here is about 1.5m tall. Unbelievable piece of work. It shows some model warships on surface level and then all that happens under the waterline... the Uboat for example is presented in a wiery sort of 3d effect... The numbers on the right side show us the water depth together with some information (maximum effective water bomb range, maximum safe uboat diving depth and such things...) - not the broken galley on the ground.
Image

Another 'big' one - a photo shot into a WW2 German Uboat bunker drydock. It's been build 1:1 by the example seen in the well-known German movie 'Das Boot'. This bunker contains a complete Uboat and lots of figures. The whole thing is, if I'm exact, about 2 meters long and approximately a meter high. Looks as if it's real, doesn't it?
Image

Oh - and of course, there was a competition. A competition filled with loads of really great things (unfortunately I've only photographed a few of them):

Finally, this brings me to one special work, which also won a medal.
Do you remember the Projects-threat "Hold fast, Quatre Bras" by our fellow forum member JSobi?
You can see the work in process here: http://www.bennosfiguresforum.com/viewt ... =11&t=6979

And now have a look at the great result that Jan has created. A diorama that was worth every second of hard work!
