Transvaal Boer Commando

Posted by despertaferro on 27 Jan 2012, 13:12

Hi friends, time for a little change after so many musket-pike stuff.

A bit of guerrilla warfare this time: the tough Boers from 2nd Boer War, 1898-1902.

In my opinion, these figures are amongst the best Strelets releases.

And maybe I'm wrong, but I think I have not seen these boys painted yet.

Hope you like them and thanks for watching.

Impossible to paint them better, your style gives the perfect idea of "dirty" guerrilla warfare

I do not like Strelet's figures but I like how you paint them :-)

Can you tell me are you using acrylics and did you put some (matt) varnish on figures at the end?
There is something special in your figures (not just these boers) and I cannot tell wheather this is
because of varnish or something else :?

So that's what my neighbours are doing the whole day? I always knew they can't be trusted...
And it's only three minutes away by the bus...

Wow, they look REALLY good. Nice job.

Do you think any of the mounted figures could be used for American Civil War Confederate cavalry?

Thank you very much for your nice comments!

Kekso, here you can find a deep explanation of my painting system: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4016 Don't hesitate to ask if you need further details.

Zed1, I think as far you can't be taken for a British or Zulu you're safe :-D

Duke atreides, the only thing you have to do is to shave them other than you want to convert them into Taliban

Konrad, will be a pleasure to see this figures painted by you, better than mine for sure! In the meantime Romans are good choice

Tuthmosis III, well they're armed with Mauser carbines (inappropriate), hunting rifles (mmm...maybe...) and pistols that clearly are not Colts or Remington but can play as a Beaumont-Adams or LeMat. And I don't know about wearing cartridge belts across the shoulders. But Mexicans did, so perhaps...
In general I would say that they look too modern for ACW but depends on your tastes. I did not use all the figures, so there is a few more poses on the set http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=957
