Why post pictures of dioramas here?

Posted by Michel on 13 Aug 2021, 09:12

I have noticed for a long time that when there is a new gallery article, countless other threads are filled with blabla and the dioramas immediately disappear into nirvana!
It's a shame because the work doesn't get the appreciation it deserves!
Instead, other threads are littered with unnecessary comments!
I also posted a Diorama that no one is looking at anymore. That annoys me very much. :eh:
Why should I adjust something again?
Perhaps the picture gallery can be pinned so that new posts stay longer in the overall overview!

I don't see you commenting on many other people's gallery threads. Practice what you preach and I will listen to your complaint.

Also you received 18 replies to your last gallery post. This is a lot for this forum (especially when you post sideways pictures and don't fix them :eh: ). If you want the thread to be even more active, you should reply to the people. At least acknowledge their compliments and answer their questions.

My two cents worth. ;-)

Hello Michel,

I do not know what you expect, but here are projects with nearly 7.5 Mio views here over the time. It might take some time, but in case visitors are interested in, they will come. And since we are in a specialist hobby-forum and not on the Twitter-account from Barack Obama or Kim Kardashian there are not Million views after a week or so. I do not know how this might be on putty & paint for example - and I do not care. But your last dio presented here has been watched 244 times at Bennos and 243 at putty&paint.

Most of all I am not sure if you should rate the posts here. :eh:

I am not even sure which posts you mean, of course. But even some not hobby-related post should be allowed in a communitiy of hobbyists. :joker:

Yes, if a Dio is discussed in just a few days, it is more or less gone.
Peter do from time to time a repop of some posts, Dio.

I agree. You (due to your top quality) get always a lot of response.
Like sevral Nappy, Ancient Dio here.

And we get for that group of modellers a lot of Dio in a good everage quality, I think.

Here I am quite happy with my main theme of vehicle, planes in a figure forum !
And for me it is for sure not a one way presentation of my Dio, work.
You won't belive how often I get a good laught of the members response. And not only the nice ones are the one I do love too.
And one main thing is simply that I do practice a little english. More bad as good but better than nothing.

Yes, it is a bit dissapointing that after around one week the Dio are discussed. So from time to time I check my ones of the past.
And I realy get some funny answes.

A big thank you to all who give me a text to my work in the past.

And the mods do a good job that we are here friendly with different opinions.

Michel.

Your Dio pictures are at number three spot in the gallery section. They've only been pushed down two places by pictures of someone else's work.

Perhaps I should make a habit of visiting the Gallery section more often to see if I've missed anything, things do disappear from the front page quite quickly. I'll do that now, it should move your post back to the top of the front page; but only temporarily; only for the time it takes me to write "Happy Birthday" to Mr. Andrea. Which I do not think is unnecessary at all.

Actually I don't think any of the comments here are unnecessary, I like that this is a place where we can chat with friends on a range of common interests. And most posts here are commenting on peoples work. That's important; I've had the experience of posting pics on another forum and not receiving a comment, I much preferred it when I posted the same pics here and got several nice comments from people telling me they enjoyed seeing them.

My two cents : don't expect any visibility, our hobby is soooo marginal !
You can spend hours, weeks, years (like me) on projects, this will grab the attention of a few hundred people at most, if you're lucky.
you must not expect anything else!I spent (and I continue !!) more than seven years on a single project, for which I made a dedicated website with, beyond the figurines, a little history drawn from good books, I do not do not believe that more than 80,000 people visited it. And I find that huge. As far as Benno's is concerned, it is a (small) forum with less than 50 regular contributors (at first glance), do not expect anything except exciting exchanges with passionate people as crazy as you! :-D

I've looked at your statistics. You have 6 posts in total on this forum this year. That is less than 1
post per month. You've posted 2 of your works and got 23 likes in total. Let me remind you that
average duel on this forum gets around 20 votes. And you've commented on other people's
work only once this year.

I'm not sure what do you want. Ok, you've contributed this forum at least with your work and
thank you for that. But as you like that your work gets (nice) comments, other people like it too.
There are only few dozens of active members so your statistics is pretty good (just look at
gallery in "Other scales" for comparison to 1/72 gallery - likes and comments). If you're looking
for some kind of promotion and popularity, then you're at wrong place. If you're looking for
friends, having fun, chat and share your work then you are at great place.

These words are spot on! I couldn't have said it better. I told you long time ago Michel, a simple "thank you" can do miracles.

I give you an example. Pirate tower finished. Nice work but..... Bad posted pictures. We had to turn our screen to see them good. Lots of nice comments, and you didn't even "like" them. No answers to the questions been made. an Most of all "no comments" from you. Not even in your starting post. So don't complain if your dio's not getting enough attention! It's your own fault.

Well. I read this topic. I wondered. I read it again. I hesitated. My first idea for a comment would have gone in a similar direction as many others wrote. So in order not to make an 'unimportant posting' and write it all again, I thought about why I am here. Here for more then a decade.

I don't post too much these days. Mainly because since my life changed a lot, I'm not able to show much new work. In addition, I have never been a diorama building enthusiast myself. I'm a figure painter. A mediocre one in comparizon to much of the great work I see here, but a happy one. I like this place because it lets me take part in a worldwide community. A community of people I otherwise most certainly would have never known. Plus it gives me the chance to share my work with a whole lot of more people then the handful of people who regularly can see it with their own eyes. I can even keep in lose contact with some fellows who I - due to Corona - cannot meet at FIGZ for the second year now.

In the past, I have sometimes wondered why one work gets much attention while a different work gets no attention at all. It also happened to me once in a while, but I've stopped to care about it too much. To you, Michel, I can only say: don't take this forum - take ANY forum - too serious. Don't let the behaviour of others annoy you too much - you cannot control them anyways. You are part of a community and each part is of importance. The number of hits a topic gets doesn't always correspond to the real amount of attention within the community. At FIGZ, there's often good talk about pictures that have been posted by forum members long ago - even if they didn't get much response on the forum.

Nevertheless, blabla and chit-chat is an important part of many people's lives. This is a community, not only a gallery board. If you want to keep you entries up in the list, you should perhaps make more conversation, add some detail pictures after some time, etc.

So why should you post your work here? Because many people here like to see it. Because it's worth to be shared with others. Simple.

Not wishing to add blabla!
Open ended topics are the answer... you simply add to them. BB

You are all right!
Maybe I was a little too sensitive and didn't do my part to fill the posts with life!
But it wasn't just about me, but about a lot of posts that disappear faster than you can see!
@Peter
Unfortunately, I can no longer rotate the pictures, i.e. edit the post!
Maybe this function should be introduced ?!

I will be more careful with the answers in the future!

We can help you replacing the pictures but then some of the comments would be silly. You can always repost them in that same topic. And if there are problems we can always help.
We had some problems with editing posts in the past. That's why the author has only a half hour to make changes on his or her post. After that only an admin or moderator can help you! And if possible we will! ;-)

Some interesting points here. Acts as a reminder to me to be more active than I have been over the last few months! I for one love getting comments (either positive or negative) about my photos so I should be better at commenting on everyone else's fantastic work. Without the friendly advice on the forum my painting would still be absolute garbage and I'd probably have given up!
