password hijacked

Posted by Michael Robert on 30 Oct 2018, 17:08

Hello,

just wanted to let you know that my password I use to enter was hijacked. Now I receive blackmail on my job e-mail account.
Maybe the hacker has done harm to others as well

Please check if hijacked password is old one. Once I got blackmail mail with hijacked password. First I thought "Oh S**T", then I realized it was an old password. Here you can check if your data were compromised in the past:

So as I understand it the E Mail pass word has to be changed ?
In fact change all passwords for all accounts is the advice I`ve just been given.
I`m quite ignorant on this kind of stuff, but thankfully my Mrs B,is not.
The Forum was off line Monday until Tuesday afternoon in the UK.
Has this anything to do with this issue raised by our fellow member?
I hope these dam pirates get a good solid butt kicking! BB

Sorry to have created this mess
Some details : received this blackmail on my work account claiming my password from this forum. It is true that it was not a sophisticated one and it was old. I’l report it to company IT. Change some codes. The important ones
What else is there to do?
Cheers
Michael

I checked my two E- Mail sites and nothing out of the ordinary there. Having a good Fire Wall and additional security in place that we pay for certainly helps us.

However if the Forum has been hacked there is lots of information here. Benno`s Old Security Setting would need upgrading to make it safe.

Those hackers are mean buggers that is for sure.
I guess sending e-mails from an infected pc,is how it can spread to others?

As everything arrives by e-mail ,I hope you can clean up your pc Michal, if not put a hammer to it.
Yes I did this about 4 years ago.
Sometimes one just has to bite the bullet or these blighters moneywise could bleed you dry. BB

One point to clear up Michal ,you have raised concern by your action and not caused a mess. BB

No problems on my end. Perhaps it was an issue with Michael Robert's specific PC and not the Forum in general.
