The Cave

Here are some pics on the painting of the figures. The Pythia is already quite advanded; the marines so far got only their dark- blue base color:

Perhaps more interesting is the progress on the cave, after drybrushing everything and painting the tentacles:

Absolutely fascinating stuff good sir. Am perched on the edge of my seat, biting my fingernails as I see this sci -fi scene come to life.

Thank you!
But we all know: no decent alien scenario without tons of slime and slimy tentacles. So let the goo times roll!
Therefore, here comes phase 1 of the total mess that this diorama will be turned into.

The recipe:
Take some cellophane noodles…

…and prepare them as usual with hot water, add a generous topping of white glue…
Image

…stir well…

– and Bon Appétit!

After drying, the noodles have become translucent again. And they twist and bend in unpredictable ways during drying – they sort of seem to have their own life, which looks nice and creepy:

(In fact, this is not really a new idea, I did this in a different variant before.)

With some glossy varnish, the dried noodles become even shinier and more translucent:

Phase 2 will be the application of transparent acrylic gel (a leftover from the Villa project).
For safety reasons – there are so many things that can go wrong with such stuff – I did an experiment with the gel on a noodle sample:

After drying, the experiment looks OK:

And thus I have started to apply the acrylic gel, this is the last step on the diorama base before the insertion of the (still not completely) painted figures:

Wow, Stephan. After several weeks of being unable to access the forum, now that I’ve managed to log in, I’m really impressed to see the huge progress you’ve made on both the Pythia and the cave. The atmosphere you’re creating is truly unsettling; I wouldn’t want to be in those marines’ shoes.  :sweatdrop:

Many thanks! I had to ask Google what Trigië means ... and yes, I think the approach to Roman history is quite similar.

I completely agree with Gunnar. As you discover each of these fantastic elements in turn, our curiosity to see them all together grows, Stephan.
