Craufurd's Light Division - 1810 (18mm)

Posted by Ben Bob on 05 Mar 2018, 11:56

Wow, it's been a long time :eh:
I have been mostly working on modern wargame units since my last posts, but I have started something that may be of greater interest here.

This is a unit I've wanted to model for a long time.

It will consist of 1 & 3 Cacadores, 95th rifles, 43rd and 52nd infantry, 16th light dragoons, the 1st (KGL) hussars, and some horse artillery. I am using (the wonderful) AB figures 18mm range for this.

I will represent units at about 0.02 : 1 (man to figure) ratio. This way I can represent infantry battalions with ~10 figures, and cavalry cavalry regiments with ~7 figures. Hopefully this way I can actually finish all the units.

Enough of that: here is my first unit.
These should be the 1st Cacadores.

Does anyone know how the coat tails should be painted? I have left them brown for now since I can't find a good reference.

Cheers for looking!

The turnbacks are coat coloured ie, brown ( Dk Khaki)

For a decent reference to the Napoleonic Portuguese Army I would suggest this.

For very little money you could have a 235 page download to reference today.

Very nice figures. I have never seen them before. I will check my library, maybe I will find some infos concerning the tails.

No need MABO I alreasy answered the question :yeah:

Incidentally, the braid on the uniforms in 1810 could be a mixture of yellow, blackened yellow, black or none (removed) with blackened pewter buttons

I did a test Light Dragoon.

I'm not too happy with the face nor the horse, so I'll probably update them when I paint the next lot.

I'm pleased with the rest of it though. Patience with painting the collar and cuff piping payed off.

Here's the last update for a while. I retouched the horse and the officer's face, and added the regiment's trumpeter!

Very impressive painting and even more impressive considering the small scale. The faces are great.

Thanks, all :yeah: :yeah:

Here's a bigger update from the last couple of weeks: the 16th Light Dragoons, 95th Rifles, and Horse Artillery are done, as well as General Craufurd himself!

p.s. well, the figure I used for General Craufurd is the wrong rank, but he'll have to do for now.

I found some natural scenery items in the woods today and decided to take some more atmospheric photos! The rocks are dry rotted wood and the weeds are moss. I think it'll pass for the Coa for now.

Looking at those last few photographs, I can hear the clip-clop of the horses hooves and hear the creaking of the cannon wheels.

Very nice update! And I don't think Craufurd will rotate in his grave, you paint too nice for that!

Super painting. I love the faces giving them an individual feel.

So many manufacturers seem to do lovely uniforms but then have blobs for hands and heads from horror movies.

One of my chaps has no ears it turns out!

Excellent project.

Best wishes,

Chris
