Sho's 6mm sculpts

Posted by Seb Palmer on 27 Jul 2014, 12:13

Hello Sho

Well, yes, separate figures is how I currently work, on whatever scale, 6mm and everything upwards.

Maybe one day I'll start using strips, as that's how most manufacturers seem to supply most of their 6mm stuff. It's clear that some strips, e.g. artillery crews, or Adler's cavalry or infantry command strips (posed in a single file facing along the length of the strip, as opposed to facing 'forward' across the shorter width) are intended to be split up.

I'd never have assumed that a supplier would consider giving the customer any options. It's always seemed like you take what's available, and then, if need be, adapt it to your own requirements. But I guess if they were available singly to start with, that'd certainly suit my current working methods.

One thing I should let you know right off is that I'm a freelance creative, i.e. I don't have much money. So if these were to be deviations from your normal production that would incur extra cost, I probably couldn't afford it.

So, although it's a time consuming task - separating Old Glory 10mm figs, with their extra thick bases, was a nightmare! (I probably simply won't buy them any more) - somewhat sadly, I have to confess I've got more time than money at present! :-/

Thanks for taking the time to discuss this BTW. It's totally unexpected on my part!
Regards

Seb

Heh.. I am not a manufacturer yet and don't have "the normal production line". :-)
Just do figures for myself and share with others. But as I don't have any income and reserves are short, then producing the figures must start feed me in closest future.
Just ordered the spincasting machine from Tiranti couple weeks ago and wait for delivery.

Separate figures are probably with almost same cost as entire strip, as work with them and space in mould are almost the same. Only metal consumption are less.

I think, that the only idea of separating figures from strip are to basing them more closely near to each others. And therefore I created my strips as allready finished and ready for use, without need for separating. ;-)

btw.. there are new forum, dedicated to very well painted 6mm napoleonic only.
With your skills of painting 6mm you probably are most welcome there.

Thanks Sho

I just joined 'perfect6' earlier this evening ;-)

Well, I would definitely like to support you in your efforts - which means I'd like to buy some of your figures - as I admire what you're doing enormously. I would like to make my own figures as well... maybe one day!?

I was looking at our website - www.boki.ee - and love what you're doing. What scale are your Russian generals? I would gladly buy copies of all of them: I'm wargaming Russia 1812 in 6mm & 10mm, and I want to have commander figures in larger scales.

See for example my Napoleon:

http://aquestionofscale.blogspot.co.uk/ ... lmost.html

... which is a 28mm Alan Perry Foundry figure. I also have a 15mm Napoleon, from Warmodelling, after Vasily Vereshchagin's painting of Boney at Borodino, sat on a chair with his foot on a drum (which I especially like, 'cause I'm also a drummer!).

Will you be doing figures for the French commanders as well? I see you've done Murat. I recently bought a 28mm Murat (on foot), from Gringo40s:

Seb

PS - I read in one of your posts on your website that you're a big fan of Anthony Barton: me too! He's like a hero to me. I love Battle Honours and AB. Such a shame they cost so much!

Thanks for the reply Sho...I dont really have a preference for strips or single figures

Seb For 10mm these days I always go to Pendraken or Magister Militum as they offer the best quality and they are in singles

Kallistra I like as well but can be over large though all their fantasy range are Pendraken figures rebased

Hi Fenton

Yeah, as well as reasonably large French & Russian armies for Smolensk in 6mm I have armies for Maloyaroslavets in 10mm, using mostly Magister Militum, plus some Old Glory & Pendraken.

I was doing a 'stock-take' on my 6mm stuff today, & I realise I really REALLY need to get painting!

And BB, yep, Murat certainly was a bit of a show-off. A fop, dandy, gasconader... call him egat tou will! Always courting attention, frequently risking death.

Wonder what he wore when the Bourbons put him up against a wall?

Colourful lot, Boney's Marshals...

What scale are your Russian generals?

Will you be doing figures for the French commanders as well?

Yes, of course. Planned lineage of generals and current status are seen here..

Nice little desert Sho,with those" Tiny`s" marching across it. On E bay, they often call that stuff Magic Sand, and my word at £49.99 a bag plus £3 postage they can keep. Seb ,I `m not into music or cool bands, but I often have to read backwards too like in, "Part One just for Fun" BB

I put some 6mm figs in my first spincasting mould for 15(18)mm figures. So here are this subproducts..

..now I must examine this results, but its looks like, that at least all bayonets are casted perfectly. So purchasing the spincasting tecnology was worthwhile.
