Marshall in progress

Posted by k.b. on 21 Feb 2011, 23:44

Howdy all. Thought it might be interesting to show how things are progressing on the work front. Have several new Marshalls nearing completion with their respective chargers so thought I'd give a sneak preview to those of you following my threads, (as it's been a while since I posted anything), and show how work is developing on at least one of them.

This face is coming along nicely and is near completion other than a little work that still needs doing on his right ear. Obviously there's still more needed to be done on his uniform and in particular his medal. All painted in W & N artists oils over a matt white Humbrol enamel basecoat.

Have discovered that by using first a thin matt white basecoat and then a gloss white second coat helps tremendously to spread the subsequent oil layers over larger areas and helps to get thinner coats of oil paints than can be managed with a matt undercoat alone.

As such am using this technique primarily for my horses, a tutorial of which I'm in the process of putting together if anyone might be interested.

A shot from a slightly different angle. Here you can see more clearly that his right ear needs more work doing to it.
