Two Zulus a Day programme

Alright, so I came up with this silly idea. I've always wanted to paint a proper Zulu army, but as I'm a bit of a hobby butterfly and can't focus for more than a week on a single subject, I've never managed to do it. So now, to keep myself motivated, I'm going to paint two 28mm Perry Zulus every day and post them here. I'm rather curious myself how long I'll be able to keep it up.

So, Day 1...

XbriX, the intent is really appreciable (if I paint 2 figures per week I'm happy , because I can dedicate time to my hobby only during the weekend).

I understand exactly what you mean, XbriX, because I, too, when I’ve been working on a project for a while (especially when it comes to painting the figures, which is what I find most difficult), need to take a break and do something else.

Though I can manage to spend more than a week working on the same project (in that respect, at least, I’m better than you), I need to intersperse it with the design of a new project and, above all, convert the figures needed for it, which is what I enjoy most. That way, after a break, I can return to the original project with renewed enthusiasm.

By the way, you’re doing a brilliant job with those Zulus.

Am intrigued to see how far you get with posting 2 figures a day XbriX. Curious to know if you are fully assembling the figure, shield and all, before applying the paint or leaving the shield off til the rest is painted.
Love your flesh tones and the posing of your figures which is very natural. And lastly your basing is simple but most convincing. The only thing that i dont feel does them justice is the oversized eyes. Of course i have seen much worse but still think theyre a bit too big. Maybe if you add a little grey to the white they wont appear so Marty Felmanlike.

Clearly the whole figures are every bit as good as the glimpse of knobkerrie we originally saw.

"Horde" armies are a challenge & I wish you luck.

Thank you, I'm asembling the whole figure (shield included) the day before, then prime it, leave it overnight to be ready next morning. The eyes recive a proper wash and are not nearly as bad in person as in photos. Painting eyes on this particular miniatures is pretty easy, thanks to eyeballs being properly sculpted by the Perrys.

No flocking today, as I'm considering tweaking the basing scheme to feel more "African" - slighlty more orange soil, slightly more yellow grass (not too dry, as most of the 1879 campaign was conducted during the wet season).

Thank you! If the painting scheme was more complicated (say napoleonic uniforms) there's no way I could do two figures every day.

That should read impressed of course. Also like the poses of your Zulus, and the fact you’re depicting married and unmarried regiments does help to break up that tedium demon, especially because of the differing shield colours.
