Heroquest: Total Terror

Posted by ADM on 14 Mar 2025, 19:23

I wanted a small break for my biggest work in progress, here it is : HEROQUEST is a board game first released in 1989, another version was released in 2022, plenty of updates available, and it’s still today the best board game I’ve ever played with.
You’ve got some heroes : a barbarian warrior, an elve, a dwarf and a wizard (men and women) to fight the most horrible creatures ever seen in this ancient time of fantasy like mummy, skeleton, chaos warriors, orcs, gobelins, zombi and plenty others, A hero knight has been added in the last update with ghost and others new monsters.
I’ve combined the figures of the first version with the last version and plenty of others (mostly from Games Warkshop) to really enlarge the fight to another level. I’ve also built the castle where the action take place with real concrete, it’s heavy but can stand thousands hours of games between players without any damage !!! and can be used for up to 12 players.
I’ve painted the old figures in 1989 (nearly half of them) and finished the new ones a few days ago, a real fun to play with friends!

Dear Lord! You've done it again ADM. That is a prodigious amount of work you've done. HeroQuest was a favorite game played with my sons 30-some years ago. They re-released the game so I decided to make an updated and enlarged version for them. First the squares were too small so I made them 1 1/4" and added features like creature sizes required to open certain doors , sewers to jump over filled with nasty creatures, additional rules to cover running, jumping, moving furniture, slime. I wish I had taken photos of the boards and creatures that took a full 6 months to make. I do have extra rules I could send if you would like. I'm sure you have many additional rules yourself that would interest me. Great work ADM. I was wondering how your Moscow project was coming along with everyone else here. Fun stuff.
Cheers,

Wow, I can only agree with Bessiere, ADM. You do everything in a big way, whatever the subject.

I also played Heroquest years ago and painted some of its figures, although infinitely less than the ones you show us in this very complete photographic report. Thank you very much for sharing it, it has brought back very good memories of my youth. :-D

Oh, my! That looks like great fun! No player, but just to build up all that scenery with figures!

Hi Bessiere, I'm glad to see another player of this game, with plenty of imagination to add more creatures and situations to customize the game ! Thanks for sharing your thoughts !
Today I have no problem finding people who want to play with me, old or new players and it's still the same pleasure I've experienced decades ago, I specially like the 3 green ghost and would appreciate also more vampires, werewolf, wave of rats with the plague and many more !!!
I think anybody has extra rules, it's like adding pepper in the dish ! and I made plenty who lasted only one day, the next day is another rule !
My Moscow work in progress is still.... in progress, I'm working on it a lot right now, this is why sometime I need a break with a side project where I can experiment some new materials or painting effect. This is my heroic quest ! ;-)
