Today I present you a small little work I could finish lately: A figure from Stoessi's Heroes.
It is Ernest Hemingway as a War Correspondend in WWII. It was a pleasure to paint him and I do what I can to do the figure justice. But judge yourself. Sometimes he reminds me of Oliver Hardy

That was also my first thought when I saw it, MABO.

Interesting man - not always pleasant but a giant in many ways. I still read him but he seems to have dropped appreciatively in people's estimation. His macho-man, big game hunter persona is hardly popular today.
I've always admired his spare style of writing - I still even read his bull fighting material though I wouldn't actually go see a real bull fight for love or money.

He looks indeed like Olly, that's makes him extra fun!

Very nicely painted Mabo. The only thing is we get the impression that he was quite short from this figure - hence the Oliver Hardy similarity - when in fact he was quite a tall gent if my memory serves me rightly !

Supercool figure, my friend. Nicely painted! Like it a lot.
It also pushed me to Stoessi's Heroes website and saw there is no Italian heroes. That reminded me of the smallest book in the world: "The Italian book of war heroes"

A remarkable figure based on a very interesting photograph. This is fine work, sir!
It seems that Mr Hemingway 'filled out' a little on all that good living, even in the war years! Still, the US Army were clearly able to find appropriately large sizes for this fine writer and war correspondent to wear.
There are various references to Hemingway during the period of the liberation of Paris in August 1944, in Matthew Cobb's book 'Eleven Days in August'. Hemingway, always prone to doing pretty much what he wanted, joined up with a unit of the OSS (a US military intelligence unit) and had various adventures before reaching Paris, where he was wined and dined on Liberation Day (25th August) on best quality champagne by a retired French Colonel. If such a thing is possible, Ernest Hemingway had quite a 'good war'.
