1/700th age of sail Brigs

A friend of mine on line from the USA paints these small things up very cool, so i chanced upon these going much cheaper than the boxed BLACK SEAS SETS. In spite of my eyes getting very dim now i thought to dip my paint brush upon these very basic tiny things in view of scratch building a few myself else where on Tutorials but a wee bit larger. What will happen next?
i guess i will have to wait and see. BB

Just after Sunday Meeting on ZOOM, i bought the box of stuff below for £18.00 with £2.00 Postage.
However i bought the last one. It seemed to good a deal to pass it by.









This set has 2 plastic frigates........i believe the French called them Corvettes? Like the UNITE that was captured by the British Navy in 1796 by HMS INCONSTANT intact...
that Corvette then became HMS SURPRISE. M & C Movie fame.

There are also 4 plastic Brigs... HMS BOUNTY was a Brig!

Bobbin twine for rigging.





i already bought bobbins a few days ago for my scratch - build stash box. BB's quite mad.

So all in all not a bad haul for today's Age of Sail. Two Frigates and Eight Brigs! BB

has soft metal masts that could easily bend
while rigging it up for playful fun.

The overall money i saved on 13 ships ,'£28.00', paid for the kit above along with thin glue to stick them up.Call it swings or roundabouts. It is all a quest to get something for nothing. BB

It can be very fiddly but all the same quite interesting.
BB, will keep it simple.
Do the ropes have to fit the sail,or the sail fit the ropes?? Asked Wingnut,who was in his usual self same and plainly confused state.

i meant to mention before that i had not spent anything upon myself and my hobby in 16 weeks. So i felt good buying bulk items to save money on Kits and especially on postage charges too.Bargains are out there to take advantage of, all it takes is sailing around a bit on E Bay. There are still sharks about though on line who double up on the retail price and wack on huge postage charges too.

Why should i pay £27.00 plus £13.00 postage on the last ship i bought,
when i can spend only £20,95 and free postage for the same item elsewhere?

A few things i needed bought.

A light brown cotton for tying in the rigging.



Fine Point Scissors, for snipping off close loose ends.
BB,ordered two,because he always losses one. !

A COTTON TOP STORY OF SPINNING LOGIC by BEANO BOY



Stopping the cotton bobbin from spinning off my table.
blu tac will fix it tight to my work space.



Yes this road-kill little fellow, Mrs B,found thrown out of a car window ages ago.... will certainly do.



Yes improvisation will stop my bobbin from whizzing clear across the room.
A hole was punched through the empty jam jar,and his supportive stick was pushed through, making this a handy sort of little spinning thing.



Back to the blu tac scene.
With the glass jar pushed on firm and tight , the Pixie type soldier with rather pointed ears
seemed quite fit and happy able to help out. which was nice.



This was turning into a black cotton magic game to play today.
the light brown is for later fixing into place features. This is crazy!



Therein lay the reason far below. Brigs!

True i could have blu tac'ed him stood upon his head with the bobbin slipped on his tail end,
but that would've been far to undignified for a brave little Pixie soldier like him. BB

i'll need these to pick my way through 18 ships of sail, and yes as for every ship they will be painted upon such a swell of high seas home made colour wash. So this topic can stay in place here.



War gaming sailing cards which are needed to play the official game.

The plastic rat-traps give off a reflective shine,so i`ll try coating them both sides with mat varnish to take off this highly polished state... i wonder if it will work? What do you think?

HMS BELEPHERON was the The Royal Navy's vessel Napoleon came aboard to officially surrender to the British. Well they caught him in mid Atlantic before he could reach the United State Of America!
That sure was a forlorn hope for him.

Upon viewing how best to rig these ships out on YouTube, i will be sticking the sails on first then string the thread. BB

I've read somewhere that you need to use brand new tweezers for each ship you start to build.
Otherwise it won't work

Here is HMS VICTORY, one of the largest in the 1/700 scale.
in spite of the masts being bent, i managed to straighten them out best as i could.
Along with metal boats and anchors, there is also a metal back end to glue into place.

This is a one piece resin cast hull, that need the housings that takes the masts, drilling out a little.
At present as indeed each will come,they are just soft metal sticks that wobble about until
they fall over to get bent again. The other thing is the slits to pass the cotton thread
through the ships side above deck level is not there in all the resin castings. So you cannot wrap the cotton thread around a fixing point. Therefor one must rely on super glue alone when finishing off the thread outside upon the hull. That ain`t good.



All the plastic Kits have these vital slit holes to poke the rigging twine through,
so they are sound but seem still tricky to do. The slits can be seen at the top left
hand corner in the hull. Because there are only two masts there are only two
slits either side of each hull.


Yes they are tiny,and as for using sharp tools only time will reveal what might happen. O', Dear the pointed scissors are stuck into BB's foot.
Such is life. The size 15" steel toe capped boots will arrive soon. not really.

One sample with masts attached,so i can determine for myself if they will be an aid or hindrance where my kind of hobby hobbit style painting and handling is concerned.



The real attraction evoking my interest was the rigging part. BB's quite mad!
Cheap reading glasses and my old visor mean i get
to see most of what challenging deeds need doing.
whether they all get done is any authors choice. Said the little helpful Button.



This is great adhesive and an aid to use for myself,because it has a very thin brush inside attached to the lid and i am usually heavy handed with the thick stuff due to my trembling hands! So i highly recommend it for use on tiny kits like these.



A two inch hull is a good place to start.
WarLord Games repetitive Kits mean for the most part the only difference
in the other boxed kits are the Flags or a few metal castings.

A widely spread out range of comprehensive national choice
is the real repetitive game play here. BB
