Image

Pictures i find are a great aid to my fancy.

Image

Image

Although ready for rigging out with twine i intend to blitz all the kits on a painting production line.

Image

18 Bronze Cannon on each two masted ship gives them a cutting edge on the North American Great Lakes.

Image

A small brush full of Wet Water seen in the Yogurt pot is mixed into a brush full of acylic paint.
It drys quickly and there is no need for expensive varnishes to be used on my homemade stuff.
Been there and done that before with WarLord rip off varnishes.

Image

And so it is the Collection is steadily increasing.

Image

As the three Brigs stand ready at their station another four have been almost stuck together and soon the painting will continue perhaps with differing colours?

Image

Image

i am glad to report i did not stick three fingers together
like i did the last time i used it.

Image

i decided that i'd leave the aft masts off untill i'd painted all the cannon aboard each of these 18 Gun wooden floating platforms. It was very tricky trying to paint them with the lower wooden part spanker sail in the way of my blobbing paint brush of humorous accentric play. YA!

Image

Hopefully i'll be able to get the sails, along with all the rigging stuff up pretty soon on these gunboats.

Image :sst: who let the dog out?

:coffee: A WORD OR TWO ABOUT WARLORD GAMES PLASTIC 3rd RATE SHIPS.THEY HAVE HOLLOW BOTTOMS! So i think i'll fill them up with Plaster of Paris!
:sst: that'll stop BB, from knocking them over.

Image

Painting began on 22 Frigates and 8 more Brigs.

Image

12 Hours painting and most of the base work is done.

Image

Image

My home-made washes are going on A OK! :cowboy: Very Cheap for BB, too.
:read: It is so tough the sprues needed no washing before painting commenced.

Image

Image

Image

There are 18 Frigates of the one above.

Image

There are 4 of the one above.

Image

Above shows my printed sails. Mrs B, kindly printed them out. There were missing sails in one of the Kits. Each will be stuck together back to back because one side had to be reversed. Once the sheet is dry i can then cut them out. So my Tip is,it will be much easier to do it this way, rather than cutting out bits and then trying to stick those together.

Warlord Games wanted to charge me £9.00 including postage to replace them, NUTS! To That.
:eh: BB.is so tight fisted with his money.

So there are 17 Brigs and 22 Frigates in total. :coffee: Remember one sunk? It sure did.

Having studied lots of blue prints of ships rigging i feel confidant to undertake that cotton snipping part. :eh: i bet it will be a complete upside down mess?

:coffee: Time will tell. May all of you out there stay well. BB

Your patience and skill with these micro-ships is admirable! One thing is for sure, if I was trying to do the rigging on these tiny things, it would definitely create a a complete upside down mess.

Thank you Ben, so far i seem to be doing fair to middling which i feel it to be one step up from poor. Perhaps my twine endeavour might nudge it a little up towards good.
;-) BB, will be happy with that result.
 BB, is happy with any result.
:cowboy: Ya,you can certainly say that again Pard...
 BB,is happy with any result.
:eh: I think that sounded a lot like me.
 Sure it did,i pinched your lines WingNut.
:eh: Thanks a bunch! Now i have nothing to say. Good!

:coffee: It seems that Mr Peabody Green, read his one liner
which only implied... Good! :eh: That ain't fair i demand justice!
:cowboy: Ya! Somebody get a rope?... :eh: Gulp!
:coffee: Now,now. We must move along,or you'll have a Moderator snapping at my heels. :sst: you mean for, off topic? :coffee: Yip!

Image

i am paint thin layers of my homemade wet water colors upon these rather expensive little kits. :eh: Thus making them rather cheap little things to do.

 You nicked BB's line? :eh: i did.
:coffee: i'mmm.

Image

Building up a painted collection in my own sweet way is paying off for me.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

i realise only far to well all the guns were painted black in the annals of recorded history, but as these are toys for big boys ,or even rather nice girls, i decided to make e'm Pop!

Rule of thumb,' Make sure the masts are stuck into place facing the right way. A couple of times now i have messed up big time by not getting the direction of the sails correct. So i live and learn and it is as simple as that.

:coffee: i hope you pass this way again real soon. BB

INNOVATION

As the work proceeds i see several ways to do the rigging out of the masts.
These ideas i`ll try out and report my findings later.
So i am doing simple samples.

Image

So it is Super Glue time again. The time before last i stuck three fingers together. So i have prepared in advance a bottle of washing up soap, and a large bowl of cold soapy tap water. :cowboy: That sure can avoid you from sticking yourself to the tap. :read: Like BB,did.
 Shocked ! Shocked! I'm not shocked at all.
:sst: bb's bright beaming tip though is cool tap water.
 Warm water from the tap makes the stuff go off even quicker.
.

Image

:coffee: My painting is what takes most of my time at present because it involves building up several layers. Not just Splodge! Job Done.
:eh: i thought it looked to be a splodge anyway. Mentioned a rather annoying WingNut! We love critics,we make em walk the plank! :cowboy: Or hang e'm from the yardarm!

Image

However, yes of course my painting has not a lot to be desired about it, so i do not recommend it ,it is a factual seesaw, eyesore thing, handicapped true that just has to be slipped wobbly like into in between uncertain spaces. That poor BB,can't see. :coffee: One could say that,i am all at sea, all at sea! :eh: You mean?... Yip knowing nothing... :sst: an seeing nothing at all. Keep it up BB managed to do a it on mine today, but beware the Warlord thread and superglue can be brittle and fracture easily as I found out while using it for something else

Thank you kindly Will, for your sound advice.
Brittle cotton will not do.
i am going to use some stuff i got on E Bay which is much stronger than just cotton thread. i could go fishing with it that is for sure.
i will have a combination of black, white and light brown polyester sewing machine thread on my age of sail ships.
My Mrs B,has been busy making washable triple layered face masks on her sewing machine, so i bought loads of material for her too. i only mention it because i get to use the thread too on this high seas adventure.
:cowboy: The last time i wore a mask i ended up, serving 10 Years in Folsom Prison. Yes you did,but at least you got to see Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash.
:eh: Who?

Image

This KIT i found to be real value for money because it has lots of nations flags in the pack including the American ones and its £6.00 cheaper then if you were going to buy a three boxed set of either French , Spanish,British, or American Frigates.
Those kits do include metal back end cabin windows, which i did not want.

Image

Image

:coffee: i restocked up on my paint brush supplies which are nylon,
and i feel quite relaxed and comfortable using them.
They are hard wearing and i recommend them to anyone like me.
:sst: bb, is like tigger really,,, And he's the only one.

Image

:coffee: That's it for now. BB

I am still keen on updates. Really a cool job, Paul. In the meantime I was inspiered to buy at least one ship to join the choir, but as I saw the price of the l'Orient (34,95 €). I said myself: don't expand your collection and safe your money for the next bunch of Strelets Nappies... So I continue watching your growing fleet. ;-)

At long last an overdue package arrived and it being for the most part a huge great box container.
My Mrs B,kindly bought me a box of Age of Sail, ships and the guy posted it in that huge box seen above. Enough room to house six boxes of which two are on display topside, but i must add my Wife, does like the box so much, she thanked him for posting it via e-mail. i believe that the postage he paid on this huge lump of a thing by far outweighed any profit he would have made upon this trade.

It is true i did send him an e-mail too, before hers. Well the package was way overdue. i guess in share panic he grabbed the first thing to come into his hand, and posted the box of ships...
and after me as always being quite friendly and directly to the point. BB

Sewing machine..... polyester industrial over-locking thread 5000 M. Price £4.50

Hi :-D Guys
i just ordered the black stuff above in the Link,
as i need it for my ship to ship samples.
Fire at Will, kindly warned me about that soft easy stuff from WarLord Games
and being not stupid i pulled some of it to bits as easy as a child could or would.
 BB,did look stupid to Bella, while he was a doing of it.
It certainly breaks to pieces very easily.
Well as easy as tearing paper anyway.

In the meantime i've used the white poly thread i bought earlier.

Image

A good third of the rigging has been easily done.
In spite of my hands shaking as if i were freezing cold.
 Well it was rather chilly BB.

Image

I'm pleased with this odd look it has about it
and presently it is my best effort.
:eh: You must not say effort on this Forum.
:cowboy: It ain't that kind of F, IT, WingNut.

My dear Mother Grace Liddy Howes,
would always read to me as a child.

:read: All BB's School Reports read this way...
Could do better!

:coffee: My arts and craft projects are a therapy i need,
as is the photography and the writing of them.

i have just helped my Mrs B,
with the ironing out of bed sheets,
by not trying to do them myself.
One has to know ones own limitations.
and she understands mine.

Image

This first sample is a ship i repaired due to Silly Me,
sticking the mainmast on the wrong way.
So i had to break it off at its bottom
and re-glue it facing the correct way.
i cut two tiny support pieces from the sprue.
and it is these front and back at the bottom of the mast
that made this repair possible.

Image

The Spanker Sail was fixed into place and the Yard Arm is now fully supported by the rigging.
The next step was sticking all the sails onto the masts, before extra darker rigging can take place.

PLAYING WITH SUPER GLUE CAN BE AN AWFUL BIG ADVENTURE

Image

Awkwardly i stuck the main sails in place.

Image

i found this even more fiddle than threading every thing a me jig...

Image

that had dire need of little Me...

Image

to do each and every one.

Image

 Well there is no one else crazy enough to do it.

Enjoy Yourself...

More later.

So it's not just me who is struggling with the rigging I manage a couple of lengths and then have to move onto to something else to calm down. Keeping the thread in place while applying superglue is quite tricky as the simple slip knots I use don't hold in place long enough to apply the glue. The clue could be the name, but with old fashioned cotton thread it would hold in position, but not modern polyester...

I had no need to handle the ship because it was fixed tight and pressed in solid into blu tac.
My wet water mixed with acrylic artist paints was not pulled off by the blu tac.

Other more expensive paint might well be damaged ruining the work if blu tac is used.
Been there and done that before.

Image

Above a good sold platform to work from is stuck onto a large full paint pot.
I found it helpful to be heavy and not an empty light one.

My Poly thread went on and attached real cool using super glue.
One knot pulled around the Mast, spotted with glue,
then the rest of my thread needed glue and wrap around only on the next fixing point, and so on.
i worked from the back of each Mast and not the front.
One length of poly yarn did most all of each mast.
It is very thin and good to use with super glue applied with a cocktail stick!
i cut one sharp end off the cocktail stick,
so i would always know which end had been use for super glue.
 Yip BB,once got one stuck between a finger and thumb. :eh: That's crazy!
:coffee: Yes, but certainly true. BB

Dug out some old cotton thread (from my mother in law - cue jokes) and it works far better than the warlord stuff, quite calmly managed to finish rigging my first frigate this afternoon.

Man I missed some update on this fleet, and since Benno got them as well I am interested as well.
Fantastic how you work whit the printed sails, bad services from Warlord Games wanted to charge me £9.00 including postage to replace them. This fleet will cost a fortune already I guess.
As always a bit jealous here of what you produce!
Keep up the good work, and sail away!

Well here is my progress so far
Image

Only one frigate is completely rigged so far, but the others are nearly finished. Then onto the brigs.

Annoyingly I had to remove the anchors before I could rig the forespit, I'm not sure how they'll fit back on!

That looks to be quite a briny sea Will, and ships a plenty to bob along on the salty top side of it.
Looking real cool if any were to ask me. Well Done!

No duel please just friendly banter, for i being a sissy at heart
only ever wish to write of them these days.
