More Victorian Rifle Volunteers

Posted by Marvin on 29 Oct 2017, 11:10

Another group from my Victorian rifle volunteers project. This lot are of the "3rd London Rifle Volunteer Corps" in 1896.

This corps once courted controversy with the UK government after raising funds and seeking to entertain the Italian general and nationalist, Giuseppe Garibaldi.

The initial inspiration for them came from the cover of a book that I'd been reading (below) on the rifle volunteer movement.

The previous group of Rifle Volunteers I produced were the "Cheshire Greys", see post below:

Another very fine body of men, splendid painting.

I agree the helmets look very good and the faces are uncannily realistic. Nice pose selection too.
