1/35 "Bloody Omaha"

Posted by gerry7944 on 01 Feb 2017, 07:10

This is a 1/35 diorama which I did as a tribute to the men of the 29th Division who went ashore on 6 June 1944 into the hell which was Omaha beach.

The figures are a mixture of Tamiya,Masterbox, and Italeri. The landing craft are Italeri models.

Cheers

Gerry

Awful, scary, horror. Truth, reality, hurt !

From the point of modelling: :yeah:
A lot of small things are implanted. like the wrapped plastics to protect the fire arms. The bullet holes in the ammo box. The different color of the sand after an impact. And so on.
A highly dynamic scene. All soldier are in motion. If they are able. Smoke, dust, spray, blood everywhere.

What war really is.

I wanted to convey the horror of war in this one without going too much into the blood and gore as I think there is a fine balance to be had between reality and modelling. Having said that war is horrible and there is no getting away from the fact that it is very bloody.

Respect! It is so real, my first thought was: What a waste of beautiful life these damned wars and conflicts are.
So, - in this mind: Awful good work!
Just because it makes one thinking...

WOW impressive diorama, I love it.
So much action, like you're in the middle of it.
I am very interested in this period, been to Normandy for it as well.
And yeah, you've done a great job in a small scale!

LOL he is in there somewhere.

It was The opening scenes of this film that actually inspired this diorama.
