Well, the first figure at the top left would have come in very handy when I was creating the figures for my Swiss Guard, Pope and Cardinals diorama. With a slight alteration to the head, it would make a fantastic Pope.

Although I know I’m not going to buy the whole set just for one figure... perhaps a generous forum member who buys it might be able to send one to me.

I couldn't find the other sets - the ones in great coats sounds pretty cool, but I did find this picture reference.



Given the size and bulk of a krampuss*, I think these class as 'heavy' artillery. But in all honesty I don't think they're much of a threat as the gun crew are making a real mess of loading a firing that piece.
(* actually krampuss isn't that bulky, if you get them, wet they look thin and straggly.)

As for the witches and wizards, like the Vampires and were-wolves I can find lots of uses for these, so I will be ordering them, I will probably have some krampusses, (krampii?) as well, and redo my Dragon Rampant Northern Forest army in 1/72nd.

The wizards box contains excellent figures. The problem is the number.

Wizards tend to come in the singular. I believe you'd have to wait their General Annual Meeting (held at some convention centre in Florida) to see swarms of them.

These would be better as a single "bonus" figure spread over several sets.

I think I can see Disney's Maleficent (top left-hand side) in the Witches, hopefully the Angelina Jolie version, and a couple of Middle Earth Wizard types (which were sorely lacking in their previous forays into that area) and what looks like a Dumbledore as well.

Yes there are a lot of figures, but dedicated witches and wizards in 1/72 are rare as rocking horse droppings so I see it as a good thing. The Caesar models are good but more choice is always better. I've got a box of each on back-order at Hannants, because I will definitely have uses for these guys and gals.

The Krampus camp followers sounds interesting , but on a serious note (even though I've decided to finish anything before I buy new stuff) the witches and wizards looks very nice and interesting!

I've often thought that some of the Strelets bonus figures would make nice wizards but have only seen them collected and for sale once.
They were out of my price range for the few that I like.

By the way, I have to admit that this is the first time in my life I’ve heard of Krampus, as it isn't part of Spanish traditions (at least not in the Madrid region).

I will be honest and say that I only became aware of it in the last twenty years or so, through a friend who pointed me at it.
But, and I am sure that some of our German friends will correct me in this, Krampus, Krampusnacht and Krampus parades have undergone a surge in popularity over that period, lifting popular and international awareness.

For myself, I see them in relation to a sort of Northern Forest Mythos - were-wolves, vampyres, druids, etc and they fit in with fur-clad warriors, green men, giants, goblins and all the sorts of creatures that live in the deep woods of Northern Europe.

I did look up Krampus and found:-
1. Possibly not ancient pagan but at least 17th Century, mainly in the eastern Tyrol.
2. Paired up with Saint Nicholas - the saint can't punish naughty children so that's what Krampus does.
3. Although banned at times by local government, Krampus was banned in the 1930's by the Austrian government.
4. Re-appeared in the post war period but Austrian authorities issued warnings about Krampus being 'evil'.
5. Re-habilitated in the 2000s - which is about when I first heard of him.

From what I have seen Krampus may be the 'Big Bad' but really the kids at the festivals love them and take great pleasure in provoking them.

I understand what you are saying but how many sets of little known Wehrmacht troops types do we need? Or French Imperial Bottom Wipers of the Guard?

I believe there were only 5 wizards in Middle Earth.

Of the ME wizards only one two have appeared so far - Caesar's excellent wizard from the Adventurer's set, a spitting image of Gandalf.

And he's an excellent model.

It looks like there is a standing Gandalf, looking as if he is trying to decide which way to take through Moria (top row, RH side) and a Saruman (top row LH side).

You are absolutely right, Steve. But imho this set is really the most weird and exotic topic they have done yet. I have a lot of their sets and I like the Mummies, Centaures and Anubis Army. I can imagine to build a fantasy army with them fighting again Amazones and Cimerians or whatever. And in my personal perspective the Krampus is a Character not a unit, maybe it's why I am a little streching this point. But of course this is a personal oppinion and everybody might see it different. Most important is, that the company will continue their work - maybe with Nicolauses in skirmish...

And I like your idea of French Imperial Bottom Wipers of the Guard!
