Two sets are definitely the same: siege of Kazan set 1 & siege of Pskov set 2. The two sets with mainly archers and one spearman/lancer.

Hi Tom
As a partial answer: At Kazhan Russians under command of Ivan the Terrible beat the Tartars. At Orsha Russians were beaten by Polish-Lituanians.
We probably can expect Tartars and Polish (maybe more winged hussars?) in the future.
Cheers

Hi Tom
Actually, the cossacks really started to exist after the battle of Kazhan. The cossacks were people, mostly of Russian origin, who were allowed to populate the frontier regions gained during the Russian expansion starting with the reign of Ivan the Terrible. So, no participation at Kazhan and maybe Anecdotic at Orsha.
Cossack culture is quite interesting. They lived a semi liberated life - little or no taxes, had a kind of tribal democracy with the election of their chief - the Ataman. They were known to be thiefish ruffians with fierce spirit of independence. The Zar used them to secure frontier regions with far away regions just as the Caucasus - Terek cossacks, the southern uUkraine - Don and Zaparoshni cossacks and Siberia - Ural cossacks. They would aquire a lot if the cultural traits and also warfare from the frontier tribesmen they were asked to dominate.
Cossacks fought the Tartars and the Turks, and they fought the big uprising after the Poles had annexed most of Ukraine (after Battle of Orsha).
There is some good reading:
Zinkievic « with fire and iron » about cossack uprising
Tolstoi « the cossacks » about life of Terek cossacks fighting the Tchetchens
« The quite Don » official author is not the real one describing the doom of the cossacks after 1st world war and during the Russian revolution.
Another very good one is « Taras Bulba » by Nicolai Gogol, cossacks fighting Polish
Good reading :-)

There are 133 wrong shapes on the set box. The designer made a mistake, and I missed a mistake. There are other shapes in the set. So I put masters

Thanks for clarifying this. :yeah:

So, we are looking forward to 6 brand new sets focussing on 16th century Russo-Lithuanian and Russo-Kazan Wars (plus possibly further conflicts) around Ivan the Terrible's reign.

Any news on Vietnam War and WWII airforce ranges?

Spotted on the VK forum on the 22 Oct

2. Some clarifications from Charon. For "RedBox" the plans are as follows: this November the king's musketeers and the cardinal's guards will come out (2 sets each: foot and horse). After them, cavalry should appear for the Jacobite uprising (4 sets). Finally, the chain of announcements is closed by the Ukrainian Cossacks and rebels of the 17th century, the master models of which you can see in our group, in the album of Alex Kot.

Sounds interesting

Oh wow!
I did wonder if these were the UR models re-boxed, but these seem to be new models, due to the slight difference in poses.

They are beautiful! And that is something I am saying a lot about the output from Red Box/Alliance these days.

The actual muskets are a bit short, they were after all Musketeers and not Carabineers, and why would they need a rest for a short piece like this? And the standard is a little small - foot standards at the time were about 6ft by 6ft, however I am not sure that the Musketeers had foot standards as they were often mounted.

Apart from that, little details like the downward angle of the rapier, the poised foot ready to move make this a must-have set for me. Several must have.

When German produced their sets I was disappointed that they were hard to get hold of, but the the UR sets came out but then they sort of disappeared, now this!

Wow! looking forward to seeing the figures for those Jacobite cavalry, and a dedicated figure for Prince Cherlie :-D . Looks like there's one picture on the vk site but they're hiding behind the horses, i can see half of a figure that looks really good. Thank You Haron. And thanks Steve for posting this news.
