Waterloo1815 news & releases 2020

Posted by Erich von Manstein on 21 Jan 2020, 23:54

Unfortunately, Waterloo1815 took a small break during 2019. But today they revealed an upcoming release at their FB site. :yeah:

042 - WWI Italian Cavalry

According to that announcement the new set will be available quite soon already.

Not my era, but I really thought they were gone from producing new stuff! Great to see I was wrong!

044 - WWI Italian Elite Troops (Arditi) seems to be on its way as well.

Another cavalry set of frontal attack with sabres drawn againt machine guns.
Poor riders and poor mounts. But spectacular of course and well sculpted.

As far as I understand it, Waterloo1815 declared yesterday that their own masters for this long announced set are irretrievably lost and they will instead only offer a repack of some unfortunately underwhelming Hät figures (set 8221) in their own boxes. :(

36 figures in 8 poses.
The base is not part of the kit.

While this is somewhat disappointing news, it also implies that this now "veteran" manufacturer is still active and we can hopefully count on them in the future again.

Well, it is a shame that this set will simply be a re-boxing of the dreadful HaT figures, but thank you for the information.

Does this mean no re-issues of any of their sets not currently in production? I could use a few more boxes of French foot dragoons as no French army would be complete with them. I do like the quality of their sculpts, they are one of the best IMO.
cheers,

Is this 'release' one of the most pointless ever?!

Indeed, it seems a somewhat pointless release to me as well.
However, I can well understand that Waterloo wants to have its own & complete range of WWI Italians within the companies catalogue.
After all, this is exactly what they had announced a few years ago and apparently they had invested in an Arditi set, but unfortunately without success.

Still, after the disappointing Hät set and the not to be released Waterloo figures, we can possibly expect an adequate handling of this subject through RedBox.
They also announced an Arditi set almost 2 years ago.
In view of their younger releases, these figures might actually form a reasonable base for such troops in 1/72. Provided RedBox manages to continue production despite the adverse circumstances of the current war, I would hope for further WWI Italian and KuK sets to follow.

For me personally this is another long wished-for and intriguing topic area, the uniqueness of grim industrial warfare under the alpine conditions of WWI Italian front.

Any further talk about this or other RedBox figures should take place in the appropriate thread though. ;-)
