Zvezda: something is changing?...

They were the best, but more then once also quite big.
The Russian mortar set was an old announcement. Always fun to remember the other announced but then cancelled sets:
-Russian Jäger 1812, nice masters!
-French infantry for about the same period (according to the drawings).
-Imperial Roman catapult (pitty, ‘cause they ware at their best with such kits, perfect engineering).
-Russian irregular Cossacks (1812).
What more?

Given that the announcement pertains to the Art of Tactic game (it also mentions the Barbarossa box set being re-released as a three box set) I would not get my hopes up for Zvezda producing big box sets anymore. They long ago said the big box format was unprofitable for them so I don’t expect any new ones.

I am happy that they will produce new infantry sets for WWII. I remember the digital images of the 120mm mortar and I was very disappointed when it was cancelled so thanks for the link MicroWorld.

What does that mean?

It means: all "smart" words about marketing ("not in demand") were SUDDENLY (as always, if we talk about "Zvezda") forgotten. As I always said: "the left heel decides what "Zvezda" will do in future".
But "don't roll out your lips" (I don't know if a similar phrase exists in English, but in Russian it is widely used): only few new sets may be. Forget about dozens of sets as it was in 2010-2015.

I think the English phrase ‘hold your horses’ is appropiate: don’t get too excited. So let’s not expect too much.

Well, I always hoped for more good Soviet ww2 mortar sets. We only got Pegasus winter (very fine) and some by Zvezda. But Russia had a lot of mortars and artillery, so more in 1/72 is justified.

The only maker of figures I order two sets (WWII) of each small box always.
Zvezda is not on top, they are the leader for mass production figures in any aspect that are important for me.

So hopefully we get a few stets as MicroWorld mentioned instead of non.

Zvezda declares their plans for 2020. Six small sets for "Art of tactic" wargame:
1. 120-mm mortar - soviet
2. 120-mm mortar - german
3. Soviet infantry with Submachine guns
4. German panzegrenadiers
5. Soviet assault group ("SHISBr")
6. German "Volkssturm"

Earlier there was roumored about new 1:72 armor:
1. T-28 (soviet, not U.S. )
2. SU-85
3. T-90MS
4. S-400 (the most misterious: nobody knows which vehcle from whole complex "Zvezda" will choose )

Zvezda could ask their price on new runs of the old napoleonic sets. I have seen Russian Hussars going for 50euros+ and the French command even more! After painting sets by all the manufacturers in 1/72 scale there is no better. Perhaps they would sell the molds to another company for production? I probably have enough of their sets myself but others coming in new to the hobby will see those and despair looking at the alternatives still available. It was a mighty short run as they go.

Even though they stopped making new stuff Zvezda were at least rerunning their old Napoleonic sets. Have they stopped doing that?

It's my understanding that they stopped producing all of the large figure sets and what you see available is left over from original production runs. I have no inside source so don't take that as gospel.

Their latest re-issues were GNW sets and Carthaginians if I recall correctly.
