Hat Napoleonic Austrians

Posted by marc zijp on 24 Apr 2019, 11:02

Finally some advance in the production line.
Still some hope they will do the Russian infantry too, although I think Strelets’ Russians will appear much sooner. Nevermind: progress is better than nothing!

You are right, marc, 7YW figures are still quite rare. We have Revell which are good, much too big Zvesda and now on the very slow move Hat.
Russians would be great. Moreover more Cavalry. Most cavalry can be quite generic. It is really a pity so little is happening here.
These Hat I like. Hope they go well enough with the Revell

Agree with Marc and Michael. Austria was quite big power. And my pondering is, why are almost all Prussians for SYW oversized?

Lots of issues have been raised concerning this Boxed Set on the Hat Forum,by one Member there. If these have gone into production as they are shown lots will be disappointed who buy them. Both hands broken away from the figure but still fixed to that toy soldiers musket is the worst to be seen. The camera shows all mistakes raised by the Member concerned with their quality. If you have seen them and like them,i would advise another closer look at them. BB

"A *First* look at Napoleonic Austrians"

Whilst Mateus' comments on the HaT forum are useful, I don't think it serves any purpose to pile on here over a "first" look at computer generated images. Let's see how HaT responds in the coming years (decades?) before the product is released.

I think my point doesn't need to be made twice?

Paul.

The pictures shown are not actual figures but digital scans (that's the way It's done now).

This is a first look at the digital masters so that people can point out any issues like these and have them resolved, which I'm sure they will be. HaT will also go to great lengths to make sure the sizing of the figures meets their customers satisfaction before the moulds are cut.

HaT always shows the figures through all the stages of development and asks for opinions and Invites criticism so that errors can be fixed. People really should take advantage of that.

Worry not, HaT is fixing the flaws already:

Not really a surprise, of course.

I am a bit afraid to paint my Austrians, all this white! Have both the ESCI set and the first Italeri set. I am tempted to testpaint some of them, but it will have to wait. These Hats look much better than Italeri's 2nd shortnecked set.

I hesitate to offer you advice (great painter that you are) but this is what I did with my SYW French.

Essentially, uniforms were grey-white (vallejo) & belts pure white. I gave the "cloth" a delicate wash with Vallejo grey wash.

A bit subtle but it works.

I do have a greyish white (or a whitish grey) GW, that could work. Huge thanks!

My Austrians are painted light grey, a sepia wash and then highlighted with the light grey. The uniforms are cheap fabric. Don't imagine they had anything we would call white. Think ecru. :yeah:

Oh and officers get pure white uniforms (+ wash) as they'd have better quality cloth.

Disagree.
It took effort to whiten cloth, hence white clothes were a symbol of some wealth. Officers, right up to the last century, were generally people of some wealth.

Fuller's Earth, urine, lye: all used from Ancient times.

There's an Ancient Egyptian papyrus on how to whiten linen.

Next you'll be trying to get me believe the HaT Napoleonic Austrians are poorly sculpted.

Were the Austrians wearing Linen Donald?

Have you ever tried to make a woollen fabric white?
