A018 - WWI Canon de 155mm GPF mle. 1917 with French Crew

Image

http://www.strelets-r.com/Pages/Set.aspx?SetID=344&M=M

This comes a bit surprising, because Strelets were working on a WWI Canon de 155 C mle. 1917 S kit I thought, but title and boxart clearly indicate the GPF gun.

Apart from that, some of the presented figures were originally intended to man the Mortier de 220mm TR mle 1915/1916 Schneider kit?

The commander with his stick and the (sell phone will be much easier Sir ! :-D ) pose with the phone are nice unusual ideas.

The new sets don’t have a small seperate sprue with staff. I remember people requested that on the Strelets forum: more staff, not on one separate sprue. Although I don’t know if that was of any influence on that changed policy. But to be fair: most of them are useless to me.
Anyway: apart from some (rather minor) mistakes and strange decisions I can live with most of the new sets.
We’ve already discussed the minor quality of the French WW1 sets and the loss of crispness compared to the masters on some. I’m looking forward to the napoleonics, in particular the French guard marching.
My Waterloo projects are very close to finishing, when talking about the French and British site and purchasing big amount of troops.
Probably I will purchase one set of British colonial skirmishers, which will be a nice addition to the north east Africa campaign.

Next, in autumn: hopefully a whole lot of Russians for Borodino!

Hopefully better than their last Boer Brits. Hmm, there is an odd feeling about Airfix there IMHO.

Yeah, think it’s a pretty looking set with 13 good poses out of 14. The prone one looks so so. He’s wounded I guess, and although I always want dead and wounded poses this one is a bit vague.
Nonetheless: nice concept and it has been worked out quite well.
Hopefully those camel trains by Hat will once appair.

I think the British skirmishing set looks more promising than the pom pom crews. Considering his men are in kneeling/low down poses, the officer is making himself a bit of a target during the skirmish standing as he is. No wonder the officer casualty rate was so high...

Or against the Mahdist/in the Sudan theatre?
About the same time one should say, but I am not an expert in this period or uniforms either.
