Strelets news 2019

Posted by Erich von Manstein on 16 Mar 2019, 14:45

Maybe we could use a single thread to collectively compile the large number of Strelets news?
Strelets keeps consistently releasing approximately 30 sets per year and thus became the market leader for 1/72 plastic figures.
It could prove helpful to collect their news on an annual basis to relieve the news section a bit and, more importantly, to make it easier to find a general overview of announced sets.

I'll give it a try and start with what became known most recently.

181 - Nap. French Old Guard on the march

192 - (Rif War/Colonial) French Foreign Legion Desert Patrol (on the march)

199 - Nap. British Highlanders standing shoulder arms

202 - Nap. British Infantry standing shoulder arms

A015 - Canon de 105mm modèle 1913 Schneider with WWI french crew

A016 - Cannone da 105/28 Schneider/Ansaldo with WWII italian crew

Furthermore, there were several teasers for as yet unlabeled sets revealed.

"Nap. Russian Infantry" range

"Nap. Austrian Grenadiers" range

"Nap. French Infantry" range

"Nap. British Infantry" range (including Highlanders)
Image

"French Foreign Legion artillery" (Canon de 65mm de montagne with Rif War/Colonial FFL crew)
Image

"Boer War/Colonial British Infantry & Artillery" range (including Highlanders)

It's more than likely that this could be an extremely vibrant topic.
Looking forward to hopefully numerous additions! ;-)

Strelets is coming on strong in the sculpting department. Does anyone know how their sales figures are doing?

Those Austrians are as good as metals in my opinion.

Stretlets has transformed itself into a powerhouse of quality with quick production times.

Our friends at Hat should take note.

Happy modelling.

Hmm, these will probably not match their old Boer-brits. Looking great!

Masters for the ‘French Line Infantry Marching 1’ (!) are also up. Hope someone will post the pictures here? Thanks.

I welcome them, but several things annoy me:
-short arms, like the nco with arm raised. Can also be seen at the marching grenadiers masters.
- on several the right arm is hanging backwards, while right leg is also in backward position. That’s very unnatural, doesn’t matter if you’re drilled or not, it’s always when left leg is forward than right arm is forward (and the other way round).
- I don’t see them on the line infantry, but the grenadiers got them again: by several the bottom of the greatcoat is turned back at the front. That’s WW1 style, but I have never seen pictures of this French dress in the Napoleonic period.

Pitty those flaws, ‘cause most likely they won’t be rectified so I gotte learn to live with it.

I feel a bit for Hat. They've just become so slow at getting their sets out (and re-stocks) they cannot compete with Strelets. And Hat take so long to develop an idea that Strelets just go in and do that idea quickly and (usually) very well. It would be interesting to compare sizes of operations now-Hat seem to only be able to work on a couple of sets at once and take a long time to materialise, whilst Strelets have so many on the go that appear in the shops in the blink of an eye. I wonder how may more sculptors/workers they have compared to Hat. And I guess they must have a lot more capitol to work with to finance all of this work.

I'm very interested in their new Boer war sculpts, but could take or leave met of their other projects. But if you're a Nappy fan, I can see that you'd be getting very excited!

I don't know if he's meant to depict anyone in particular, but does anyone think I could use him for Mortier?

Scots are British rather than "British" but surely the crew of any Colonial British gun would be RA rather than Highlanders?

Pom-poms might have been issued to infantry battalions, like Gatlings?

James Fisher posted a couple of links on the Strelets forum.

His second link is an account of the battle of Magersfontein it says "Automatic weapons were used by the British often mounted on special carriages accompanying the mounted infantry or cavalry, although several of the infantry battalions possessed a maxim machine gun".

A bit further down there is a picture of the Seaforth highlanders Maxim gun and crew. There is also a description of how the Seaforth's Maxim and another from the 12th Lancers went into action to give supporting fire to the men of the Highland brigade, who were pinned down by Boer fire, until the crews were mostly all picked off. Sounds like a very creditable action.
